The Oklahoma Sooners were 21-point favorites last year against the Tennessee Volunteers.
Times have certainly changed in 364 days though, as these two will reunite on Rocky Top on Saturday with the spread changing by three touchdowns.
ODDS ANALYSIS
It's too close to call in Knoxville for sure. The oddsmakers started off this week by making Tennessee a very slender one-point chalk, but since that point, the line has dribbled back to a pick 'em.
We are sure by Saturday's kickoff that we'll see both teams at around -1 or -2 at some point, but we suspect the ending number will showcase this game at a dead pick.
The total is somewhat high, especially considering the fact that there were only 44 points scored last year when these two met in Norman. The number to beat is at 61.5.
KEY MISMATCH
Last season, Trevor Knight threw for 308 yards against the Tennessee defense, and time and time again, Sterling Shepard was running down the field relatively open.
Knight is Oklahoma's backup now to Baker Mayfield, who really did look good in his first action as a Sooner after transferring from Texas Tech, albeit against Akron.
After watching Matt Johnson throw for 424 yards and two TDs against this defense last week, we have some real concerns in Volunteer Land. Yes, the Vols were subjected to that wild Bowling Green offense, one which routinely hangs 30+ points on even the best teams in America, but the way that the ball was just moving up and down the field was scary for sure.
Mayfield could find himself in for a big day against a secondary which clearly just isn't there yet for Butch Jones and the gang in orange.
KEY STAT
144 – The number of yards which Alvin Kamara had last week in his first game with the Volunteers. That's the most yards any runner has had in Tennessee history in a debut game. When you combine what Kamara looks like with what we know the Vols already have in Jalen Hurd, this could be one of the best one-two punches in an SEC backfield.
BETTING ANGLE
The Sooners have failed to cover their last four games against teams with winning records. In fact, in their last six games against teams which ultimately went to bowl games, the Sooners are 1-5 SU and 0-6 ATS.
ANALYSIS AND PREDICTION
The Sooners might not have the best history in the world against good teams, especially on the road, but we have a feeling that this is going to be a day for Mayfield to remember. Remember how Samaje Perine had his coming out party in Morgantown under the lights? This feels like the same sort of game.
There should be plenty of scoring right from the get go in this one. The Volunteers won't have two guys get over 100 yards on the ground this week as they did against Bowling Green, but we suspect their defense will struggle just as much.
