ODDS

The Alabama Crimson Tide are a 6.5-point favorite over Ole Miss and the total has been bet up to 53 from the opener of 49.5.

Mississippi took early money as the ‘Tide opened an 8-point favorite. Bettors recall Ole Miss was ranked No. 11 last season when it knocked off No. 3 Alabama 23-17 as a 4-point underdog.

WHEN THE ALABAMA CRIMSON TIDE HAVE THE BALL

Alabama enters ranked No. 2 in the country and the ‘Tide defense has already shut down the high-powered Wisconsin running game holding the Badgers to 40 rushing yards on 21 carries in a 35-17 neutral site win.

Alabama will pound the ground with Derrick Henry, who is averaging 8.0 yards per rush on 31 carries and six touchdowns in two games. But the Ole Miss front seven rates top-3 in the SEC along with Alabama, and Henry will have to get more yards after contact this week.

Alabama senior quarterback Jake Coker will need to handle the Ole Miss pass rush and continue to balance the Crimson Tide attack as they have averaged over 515 yards through two games with strong balance both rushing and passing.

Eight of Alabama’s 11 losses since 2008 have come when the ‘Tide rush for less than 4.0 yards per carry. When they rush for at least 4.0 yards per carry, Alabama is 70-3.

Watch the early part of this game for live betting purposes, and if the Crimson Tide isn’t penetrating through the strong Ole Miss defensive front, you may have a scoop on the winner of this game with solid prices on the Rebels.

WHEN THE MISSISSIPPI REBELS HAVE THE BALL

Mississippi is ranked No. 15 in the country and a win here would vault them into the top-10. The Rebels have rolled in their opening two games against inferior foes outscoring Fresno State and Tennessee Martin 149-24 hitting at least 70 points in each contest.

Quarterback Chad Kelly has passed for 557 yards and six touchdowns in two games including going 20-for-25 last week before being pulled. The Rebels use a number of running backs who are also solid receivers in this system, and that has helped them lead the FBS with 9.3 yards per play through two games.

Alabama’s defense is not as strong when teams pass the ball, as since the start of last season, the ‘Tide rank No. 59 in passing yards allowed per game.

When live betting in this contest, watch to see how Ole Miss quarterback Chad Kelly handle’s the ‘Bama rush and pressure. He leads the FBS in QB rating and yards per pass play at nearly 14 per pass.

If he’s comfortable early, then you can look to play the Rebels at a bigger price in live betting should they fall behind and feel confident he can succeed in the passing game.

BETTING TRENDS AND MATCHUPS

Alabama has been outstanding in payback games under Nick Saban. The Crimson Tide are 9-1 in the next matchup after losing to a team.

Ole Miss has one win in 37 tries against the Crimson Tide in the state of Alabama.

Six of the last seven games in this series have gone ‘under’ the total, but we haven’t seen an Ole Miss offense explode out of the gate like this before. Ole Miss became the first team since Houston in 1968 to score more than 70 points in consecutive games.

Still, in the Rebels last three games away from Oxford last season, they scored 3, 0 and 7 points, and nine of their last 10 SEC games have gone under the total.
