Orange Bowl Odds - Oklahoma Sooners at Clemson Tigers Live Betting Preview

Orange-Bowl-Dec21

The argument could be made that the two best teams in America are going to be on the field together in the national semifinal at the Orange Bowl. The Clemson Tigers are the undisputed No. 1 team in America, but few will argue the fact that the Oklahoma Sooners have looked like anything but the best team in the land ever since they were beaten by Texas inexplicably in October.

ODDS ANALYSIS

It isn't often that you see the top team in the land getting points in any situation, but that's where Clemson finds itself here in the Orange Bowl. It's a tough matchup for sure for the Tigers, but this is almost a bit disrespectful. However, it's just as much a testament to just how good these Sooners really are. If they were undefeated here as well, they'd probably be even bigger favorites in this game just due to perception.

Let's not forget though, that Clemson was a six-point dog last year at the Russell Athletic Bowl when it blew out the Sooners 40-6.

The total in this game has not surprisingly come up from 64.5 at the open to 66 and will likely continue to rise.

WHEN THE OKLAHOMA SOONERS HAVE THE BALL

Baker Mayfield didn't get a chance to go to New York this year for the Heisman Trophy presentation, but maybe he should've. He threw 35 TDs against just five picks. Of course, Mayfield has a ton of help around him.

Samaje Perine wasn't quite as explosive this year as he was a season ago, but he rushed for 1,291 yards and 15 TDs. Joe Mixon had over 1,000 yards from scrimmage, while Sterling Shepard was one of the best receivers in the land with 1,201 yards and 11 scores.

The Sooners though, have had too many instances this year where they almost seemingly try to force the ball in the hands of their stars. The Clemson defense is one of the most underrated units in America this year, and if Oklahoma starts to try to force the ball into Perine or Shepard when they just aren't the best options, that could be the cue for live bettors to have a field day on the Tigers.

WHEN THE CLEMSON TIGERS HAVE THE BALL

The Clemson offense just keeps coming at you. In all of the team's biggest games this year, the second half is when things started to go awry for the opposition. The Tigers have a way of wearing you down with their hurry-up offense, and both Deshaun Watson and Wayne Gallman are huge threats on the ground.

The Sooners have allowed at least 23 points in three straight games, and it wouldn't be surprising if they did so again in this one. Clemson's offense has rolled through just about everyone this year, averaging over 510 yards and just south of 40 points per game.

Watson though, is going to have to make some things happen with both his arm and his legs. If he's getting outside of the tackle box and either making throws on the run or scrambling, the Tigers are probably going to be great for NCAAF live bettors, scoring on more possessions than not. If he's contained inside the pocket, it isn't necessarily the end of the world for the Tigers, because Watson has an NFL arm and can make things happen without his legs. However, he's far less dangerous without the use of the running game, something live bettors should take note of.
