Week 10 College Football Odds - TCU Horned Frogs at Baylor Bears Game Preview

2016-NCAAF-TCU-at-Baylor-Betting-Lines

The No. 13 Baylor Bears suffered their first loss of the season last week, falling to Texas by a late field goal and slipping five spots in the national rankings. The Bears return home to get back on track this week, taking on the TCU Horned Frogs.

The Horned Frogs are 4-4 coming into this one after losing to Texas Tech in double overtime last week. TCU is 2-1 on the road so far this season and hoping to secure a bowl berth, but will be a pretty heavy underdog to pull the upset.

This matchup in Week 10 of the regular season will take place on Saturday, November 5, 2016, at 7 p.m. ET at McLane Stadium.

Odds Analysis

The Horned Frogs may be the underdogs but the bettors clearly believe this line is too high. TCU is currently raking in more than 85 percent of the action as the gamblers think they will be able to keep this matchup competitive.

The scoring total is high because each side can put up points in a hurry, but the betting public thinks it is too high, as most of the early money has come in on the “under.”

TCU has been atrocious against the spread this season, covering just one time in eight attempts. Baylor is 3-4 against the spread including a 2-2 record at home.

Last Meeting

This rivalry between the two Texas teams is one of the oldest in all of college football dating back to 1899. That very first game more than 100 years ago ended in a tie and that’s where the series sits right now — tied at 52-52-7.

Last year’s showdown lived up to the hype yet again with TCU winning in double overtime by a score of 28-21. The two teams have faced off six times since 2010 with each program winning three of those matchups.

What’s more, almost all of the recent meeting have been close games. Even with Baylor’s superiority this year, the emotion of this rivalry could help the Horned Frogs have a chance.

Key Stat

32. That’s how many points TCU’s opponents have outscored the team by in the four losses. Twice, TCU went to double-overtime this season and twice they lost by a field goal.

The biggest loss of the season was to No. 12 West Virginia last month where the Horned Frogs lost by 20 points. All three of the other losses this season were by six points or less.

That means this team has fight and could easily be better than its .500 record suggests. TCU is the type of team to cause late-season shakeups in college football.

Free ATS Pick

Baylor is aiming to stay within striking distance of Oklahoma in the Big 12, as the Sooners are undefeated in conference and the Bears have one loss. Baylor faces Oklahoma next week in a big-time showdown.

While the Bears’ College Football Playoff hopes are likely toast, they can still win the conference and need to take care of business at home in this one as the favorite.

TCU’s maligned defense did a nice job last week against Texas Tech but the offense didn’t hold up its end of the bargain in the 27-24 loss. Expect this one to be more high-scoring as its hard to keep either of these teams down for long.

While this isn’t a marquee game since the Horned Frogs are down a little bit this year, it still two good teams who are rivals. The action should be heated, and expect Baylor to come away with a close win but for TCU to cover. The spread is too high for a pair of teams which know each other so well and usually play close contests.

College Football Odds: Baylor 37, TCU 31
