Week 12 College Football Odds - Arizona State Sun Devils at Washington Huskies Game Preview

The Washington Huskies took a big blow to their College Football Playoff chances with a loss at home against USC a week ago. Washington will certainly need to be perfect the rest of the way in order to have a shot at the playoff, which begins in Week 12 with a home game against the Arizona State Sun Devils.

Arizona State has gone into a spiral after a 5-1 start and is a huge underdog in this one. The Sun Devils looked to be shoo-ins for bowl eligibility four games ago but are now in danger of staying home if they don’t win one of their final two games. This game will be really tough against an impressive Washington team.

This contest in Week 12 of the regular season will go down Saturday, November 19, 2016, at 7:30 p.m. ET at Husky Stadium.

Odds Analysis

The spread is really big for a Pac-12 game but the oddsmakers have a lot of belief in Washington pulling away easily. The gamblers agree, as more than 80 percent of the money is coming in on the Huskies to cover.

Washington is 9-1 overall and 5-5 against the spread this season. The Huskies have been favored in every game this season. They have covered in three of their six home games.

Arizona State is 5-5 straight up and 5-5 against the spread on the year. The Sun Devils haven’t been great as underdogs, covering in two of those six matchups.

Player to Watch

Jake Browning - The Washington quarterback had a rough last week, throwing two interceptions and getting sacked three times by the USC defense. But despite the pressure and a couple bad decisions, he still managed to throw for 259 yards.

The sophomore is 166-of-256 for 2,532 yards with 35 touchdowns and five interceptions. He’ll look for a better showing this week against a struggling Arizona State team.

The Sun Devils are awful against the pass, giving up a nation-worst 387.4 passing yards per game. There have been some good quarterbacks on the other side, but it’s embarrassing to give up that many yards through the air on the season.

Browning will likely take great advantage and have a banner day through the air. His leading receiver is John Ross, who has 52 receptions for 896 yards and 15 touchdowns on the season.

Key Stat

17. That’s how many rushing yards Washington had last week in the Huskies loss to USC. The offense, which is averaging 209.6 rushing yards a game, was completely one-sided in the loss.

The low yardage on the ground was the worst showing for the Huskies since Chris Peterson took over. Myles Gaskin, Washington’s leading rusher, had 51 yards on the ground in the loss but the sacks on quarterback Jake Browning led to much lower number overall.

The Huskies should also have more success on the ground against Arizona State.

Free ATS Pick

The Sun Devils have a few good wins this year but have fallen off a cliff. They have lost four straight games and three came in blowout fashion. Quarterback Manny Wilkins will do what he can to keep the game close, and if Arizona State can run the ball maybe this one doesn’t get out of hand.

However, the Washington team is solid on both sides of the ball and should get back on track. The Huskies may not be a shoo-in for the College Football Playoff any more but are still in the mix and have to win every game down the stretch to boost their candidacy.

Washington will win this one but the spread is much too high. Arizona State should score enough to cover in this one and the “over” is the correct call on the scoring total.

College Football Odds: Washington 43, Arizona State 27
