Week 12 College Football Odds - Texas Longhorns at Kansas Jayhawks Game Preview

2016-NCAAF-Texas-at-Kansas-Bet-Online

The Texas Longhorns may be wrapping up an underwhelming season, but at least they aren’t the Kansas Jayhawks. While Texas sits only at .500 on the year, it is a heavy road favorite against Kansas in Week 12 of the college football season.

The Jayhawks have been awful all season and are winless in conference play. They would love to pull off the upset but there seems to be little chance of that happening. Kansas hasn’t beaten a BCS-level opponent this season and hasn’t been close in the majority of its outcomes.

This matchup in Week 12 of the regular season will take place on Saturday, November 19, 2016, at 3:30 p.m. ET at Kivisto Field at Memorial Stadium.

Odds Analysis

Texas must pour it on early and often, and the bettors have a feeling it will happen. The Longhorns are heavy road favorites and still 80 percent of the early action has come in on them covering the spread.

The scoring total isn’t too high as Kansas has trouble scoring the ball. The “under” is currently getting more of the action as the Jayhawks may not move the ball very well.

Texas is 5-5 straight up and 6-3-1 against the spread. The Longhorns have covered three of four games as the favorite this season. They are 2-2-1 against the spread on the road.

Kansas is 1-9 straight up and 5-5 against the spread. Being a huge underdog isn’t foreign territory to the Jayhawks, who have done a decent job of at least covering those spreads. Kansas has covered three of four times at home this year.

Key Stat

Nine. That’s how many games Kansas has lost in a row coming into this matchup. The Jayhawks’ last win was way back in Week 1 against the University of Rhode Island.

The team went winless last season and only won three games in 2014. The state of the Kansas Football can make a team one of two things — angry or apathetic — so it will be interested to see the state that Kansas is as the team hosts Texas this week. Either way, a win is a longshot.

The Jayhawks need some big changes to become competitive in the conference.

Player to Watch

Shane Buechele - The Texas quarterback is only a freshman. Sometimes it’s easy to forget that when you see him on the field.

Despite the loss last week to West Virginia, Buechele threw for 319 yards, a season-high for the young player. With his performance last week, he broke the Longhorns season passing record.

Buechele has thrown for 2,575 yard with 20 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He’s had four games this season where he’s thrown for 250 yards or more. Kansas is giving up 237 passing yards on the year, and that doesn’t totally illustrate its struggles since most teams stop throwing once they build a big lead.

Needless to say, Buechele should have a big day.

Free ATS Pick

There will be little drama in which team wins this game. Texas has not had the best season but has a ton more athletes on the field and will roll. However, this spread is quite high for conference foes, especially with Kansas playing at home.

The Jayhawks have stayed close against TCU and Iowa State and would love to put a scare into Texas. The Longhorns won’t let that happen, as a ground game led by Donta Foreman and an aerial attack led by Buechele should have its way against hapless Kansas.

A 24-point spread isn’t big enough. Texas will pick up a third win in its past four games by cruising past Kansas and covering the spread. The “under” is the right choice as Kansas won’t score a lot and the Longhorns will cruise toward the end of the game.

College Football Odds: Texas 38, Kansas 12
