The Wyoming Cowboys and San Diego State Aztecs aren’t exactly zooming into the Mountain West Championship game. Both teams lost their regular season finales in a parity-filled conference but put together enough of a resume to advance to the conference title game.
Wyoming won a three-way tie over Boise State and New México in the Mountain division while the Aztecs cruised in the West division. The Cowboys defeated San Diego State in a matchup earlier this season but it was extremely close.
San Diego State is a pretty sizable favorite this time around despite playing on the road.

Odds Analysis
It’s interesting to see that San Diego State is a touchdown road favorite despite playing this one on the road, but the oddsmakers believe in the Aztecs. The general public believes a cover can happen as more than 52 percent of the early action is taking San Diego State against the spread.
The scoring total has been deemed a tad low as nearly 58 percent of the money is choosing the “over” for this matchup.
San Diego State is 9-3 straight up and 6-6 against the spread this season. The Aztecs have been the favorite in all but one game this season and have covered in six of those 11 contests.
Wyoming is 8-4 straight up and also 8-4 against the spread as the Cowboys have done a nice job of exceeding expectations this season. Most believed Boise State would win the Mountain West but Wyoming kept them out of the conference title game.
Revenge Angle
San Diego State is looking for revenge after losing a heartbreaker to Wyoming in the regular season. The Aztecs led 27-20 early in the fourth quarter until the Cowboys scored a pair of touchdowns to take a 34-27 lead. San Diego State scored with no time on the clock when Quest Truxton caught a 23-yard pass from Christian Chapman.
The Aztecs tried to win the game with no time left on a two-point conversion pass, but it fell incomplete to give the Cowboys a wild victory. Wyoming outgained San Diego State 487-389 and had 12 more first downs.
Wyoming running back Brian Hill led the way, carrying the ball 31 times for 131 yards and two touchdowns. San Diego State didn’t play its best game that day, letting a lead evaporate and losing in the end.
The Aztecs are favored to win this rematch and will want to do so to prove they are the superior team.
Player To Watch
Donnel Pumphrey -- Even though Hill had the best day when these teams faced off earlier, Pumphrey will be the most talented running back on the field. The San Diego State rusher has 305 carries for 1,908 yards and 15 touchdowns.
He has rushed for at least 1,600 yards in each of the past three seasons and hopes to put up another big performance as his career winds down. Pumphrey’s best game this season was against California when he had 281 rushing yards and three touchdowns.
He has surpassed 150 yards rushing six times this season and could be in line for another big affair.
Free ATS Pick
San Diego State enters this one losers of two straight but was ranked nationally earlier this season. Wyoming has been a plucky underdog which has knocked off a pair of ranked teams as it also beat Boise State.
The Cowboys still aren’t getting much respect as San Diego State is a solid road favorite. The first game was close throughout and this one should be as well. If Wyoming can do an adequate job of keeping Pumphrey in check this one will again be close.
Take Wyoming to cover the spread but San Diego State to emerge victorious in a close one.
