Week 4 College Football Odds - Georgia at Mississippi Game Preview

2016-NCAAF-Georgia-at-Ole-Miss-Betting-Lines

The Mississippi Rebels will try and turn their season around on Saturday as they host the Georgia Bulldogs in a Week 4 matchup that can be seen on ESPN. The Rebels could be 3-0 instead of 1-2 but they have no defense as they blew a big lead to Florida State in Week 1 and last week they blew a 21-point lead to Alabama. The Rebels are still getting respect from oddsmakers as Mississippi is listed as a 7-point home favorite against the unbeaten Bulldogs.

Mississippi -7

Odds Analysis

The Rebels opened as a 7-point home favorite and the line quickly went to 7.5 before dropping back down to 7. It is unlikely that there will be much movement on this number considering it is now on a key number.

The Rebels have not shown the ability to stop anyone and Georgia has a capable offense so when the total comes out we could see some betting on the over.

Matchup to Watch

The focus in this game will be on the Georgia offense going against the Ole Miss defense. Georgia has a great running back in Nick Chubb and an improving quarterback in Jacob Eason.

Chubb was really good in the opener against North Carolina as he had 222 yards and two TDs but in the last two weeks he has a total of 143 yards. It will be interesting to see how the Ole Miss defense does against Chubb. Eason is beginning to show that you can’t just use an eight-man front to stop Chubb and dare the Bulldogs to throw.

The Mississippi defense has a list of walking wounded as last week against Alabama the Rebels were without Fadol Brown, Victor Evans, Shawn Curtis and Ken Webster. “We’ve got a lot of young kids in a lot of areas and we’re excited about getting back out there and hope we can get a few guys healthy, especially on defense,” Mississippi head coach Hugh Freeze said.

Defensive coordinator Dave Woomack said the team needs to do a better job of coaching the young players. “We’re young and we have to do a better job coaching.” The Rebels gave up 492 yards to Alabama last week.

Key Stat

Georgia is 6-2 ATS in the last eight meetings against Mississippi. The Bulldogs have been a decent bet in road games of late going 7-3 ATS in their last ten. The problem for Georgia has been in the SEC as they are just 2-5 ATS in their last seven conference games.

Ole Miss has been a good bet in home games recently, going 8-3 ATS in their last 11 home games. The Rebels didn’t win last week at home against Alabama but they did cover the spread.

Georgia has been a good team to bet under the total of late going under in 9 of their last 10 games. They have also gone under in four of their last five SEC games.

Ole Miss has gone under in 16 of their last 21 conference games. They have also gone under in 6 of their last 8 home games. The last four meetings in this series at Mississippi have gone under.

Free ATS Pick

This should be a good spot for the Rebels to turn their season around but it is dangerous laying points with a team that has no defense. If Georgia is to stay in this game they will need a huge game from Chubb on the ground and they might get it considering how bad the Rebels have been stopping the run as they are allowing 242.7 rushing yards per game, 115th in the country.

There is no question the Rebels are going to score a lot of points as they are averaging 38 points per game and Georgia should be able to score plenty of points as well.

I will avoid a side in this game and simply take the game over the total.

College Football Odds: Rebels 36 Bulldogs 31
