2016-NCAAF-LSU-at-Auburn-Betting-Odds

The Auburn Tigers will try and turn their season around on Saturday as they host the LSU Tigers on ESPN. Auburn has dropped two of their first three games and head coach Gus Malzahn is feeling the heat. On the other side, LSU hasn’t been that much better as they come into this Week 4 matchup at 2-1 but 0-3 ATS. This game could turn into a defensive struggle as LSU has gone under in all three of their games this season while Auburn has gone under in two of their three contests.

Watch this regular season Week 4 matchup live on Saturday, September 24, 2016, at 6 p.m. ET at Jordan-Hare Stadium.

LSU -3

Auburn +3…

Odds Analysis

LSU opened up as a 2-point favorite in this contest and the line immediately moved up, first on the juice and then on the pointspread as LSU went to 2.5 and then 3.

There is a chance that this number will go to 3.5 as the Bayou Bengals are a public team and they have a higher profile than Auburn as they are ranked in the Top 25

The total on this game should be in the mid 40’s and there is only one way that the wiseguys should be going in this contest and that is to the under.

Matchup to Watch

Much of the attention in this game will be on how well the Auburn defense contains LSU running back Leonard Fournette but whether or not Auburn can cover the spread will probably come down to how well their quarterbacks play. Sean White did not play well last week in the loss to Texas A&M and it could be James Franklin III getting the start this week.

Malzahn said Franklin gave the team a spark last week and based on how the Tigers have played lately they need a huge injection of life. The Tigers are just 2-12 in their last twelve SEC games. White was just 18 of 27 for 126 yards last week. Franklin led three drives in the fourth quarter and they had 159 yards with Franklin at the helm.

"I thought he did some good things," Malzahn said. "He created some things in the passing game when it broke down, made a couple good throws, couple zone-read runs. He's still learning, still learning the offense, but I thought he gave us a spark." Franklin was 4 of 8 for 37 yards but he also had 47 yards on nine carries.

Key Stat

LSU is just 1-6-1 ATS in their last eight games at Auburn. LSU has not played well on the road of late, going 2-5 ATS in their last seven road games. LSU has also been poor in the conference lately going 1-4 ATS in their last five conference games. Auburn hasn’t been any better in SEC games going 3-9 ATS in their last twelve conference games and Auburn is just 3-11 ATS in their last fourteen home games.

LSU has gone under the total in their last five SEC games. Auburn has gone under in 9 of their last 12 home games. 7 of the last 8 meetings in this series at Auburn have gone under the total.

Free ATS Pick

LSU and Auburn have both played poorly this season. LSU is 2-1 but they have looked bad in all three of their wins and they haven’t come close to covering the spread. The offense for LSU is terrible as they have Fournette and nothing else. The Auburn offense is even worse as their only good offensive performance came against Arkansas State.

Both LSU and Auburn should be looking to run the ball a lot in this game to keep their quarterbacks from making mistakes. I will take this game under the total.
