Week 6 College Football Odds - Clemson at Boston College Game Preview

2016-NCAAF-Clemson-at-Boston-College-Bet-Online

The 3rd-ranked Clemson Tigers will try and avoid a massive letdown as they visit the Boston College Eagles on Friday night on ESPN. Clemson is coming off a very emotional win last week as they beat Louisville while Boston College is coming off a win over Buffalo. This Week 6 matchup has the Tigers laying big points on the road against a team they have beaten in each of the last five meetings. Although Boston College hasn’t been able to win against Clemson of late, they are 3-2 ATS in the last five meetings including covering the last three. The Tigers opened up as more than two touchdown favorites in this contest.

This contest in Week 6 of the regular season will go down Friday, October 7, 2016, at 7:30 p.m. ET at Alumni Stadium.

Clemson -16.5

Boston College +16.5

Odds Analysis

The Tigers opened up as 17-point favorites in this contest. The wiseguys quickly took this number down to 16.5 within minutes of the opening.

There is a chance that the number goes down to 15.5 or 16 but Clemson is such a public team that it is unlikely that this number will move more than a point or so in the direction of Boston College. Even if the wiseguys like BC in this contest the sportsbooks will get nothing but Clemson money from the public.

Letdown Spot

This is definitely a spot where Clemson could have a letdown as they are coming off the biggest win of the season as they defeated Louisville 42-36 last week. The Tigers got five touchdowns from quarterback Deshaun Watson, the last two which occurred in the final seven minutes of the contest.

Clemson has now moved up to No. 3 in the country in the latest college football rankings and they are almost assuredly going to win the ACC Atlantic Division as Florida State already has two losses in conference while the Tigers just beat Louisville. It would only be natural if the Tigers don’t take this game on Friday at BC as seriously as they should.

The Eagles don’t have much of an offense so their defense needs to be excellent if they are to contend with Clemson. BC does have a couple of marquee players in Harold Landry who is 4th in the country in sacks and Isaac Yiadom who is solid in the secondary.

Clemson is averaging just over 35 points per game while they are allowing 16 points per game. The Tigers are 3-2 ATS this season with four of their five games going under.

Boston College is scoring only 23 points per game but their defense has been solid as they are giving up just 17 per contest. The Eagles are 2-2-1 ATS with four of the five going under the total.

Key Stat

The Eagles have been a disaster in ACC play lately having lost their past 10 conference games. They were 0-8 in the ACC a year ago.

As noted earlier, the Tigers have won the last five meetings and they have also won seven of the last eight. Clemson has not been nearly as good against the spread going just 2-4 in the last six meetings. Five of the last seven meetings have gone under the total.

Free ATS Pick

The Clemson players and coaches will all be saying the same thing but there is almost no way the Tigers can avoid a letdown on Friday. The question is whether or not BC is good enough to stop the Clemson offense. The Boston College defense had one bad game against Virginia Tech but other than that contest they have played well.

I will make two plays in this game and take Boston College plus the big points and also take the game under the total.

College Football Odds: Tigers 27, Eagles 13
