The Hurricanes can make a big statement with a win, and they are slight favorites to defend their home turf. Don’t count out Florida State in this one, which is setting up to be a classic.

Odds Analysis

The oddsmakers believe the talent level is evenly spread between these rosters, as Miami gets the small cushion for playing at home. The bettors like the Hurricanes in this one, as nearly 65 percent of the betting action is coming in on them.

The “under” is the more popular choice on the scoring total, as 56 percent of the action is heading that way.

Weather Factor

These teams would love to play in clear conditions, but that seems unlikely to be the case. Hurricane Matthew is expected to be traversing through the area around this timeframe, which could lead to plenty of rain and wind.

Both teams have thrown for similar yardage per game this season, but it could benefit Florida State if the teams are forced to the ground. The Seminoles are allowing 247.2 yards per game through the air, while Miami is only giving up 137.8 passing yards per contest.

Both coaches seem confident in their quarterbacks’ abilities to throw a ball if it’s raining, but if the conditions are really bad the game will certainly turn sloppy. A downpour would really even the playing field, and it’s definitely something to keep in mind for the scoring total.

Matchup to Watch

Miami defense vs. Florida State offense - This will be a great showdown between a pair of dominant units. The Hurricanes have been one of the best defensive teams in the nation through the young part of the season, giving up only 11 points per game.

Miami has only given up 253 total yards per game defensively but will get a tough test in this one. Florida State has had its fair share of defensive problems but the offense has been good.

The Seminoles are scoring 41.4 points per game. Star running back Dalvin Cook has led the way with 107 carries for 635 yards and seven touchdowns. If he can get loose against a tough Miami defense, it gives his team a much better chance of pulling off the upset.

Free ATS Pick

Miami came in with lower expectations than Florida State but has been the better team. Both sides of the ball have been impressive as the team has won by two touchdowns against each opponent.

The closest game came last week when the Hurricanes knocked off Georgia Tech by a score of 35-21. Miami’s schedule hasn’t been very tough and this is the first game against a ranked opponent, so a win would really legitimize this team as a possible College Football Playoff contender.

Florida State started off well with a win over nationally ranked Mississippi and went 2-0 with a win over Charleston Southern. However, the Seminoles have since lost two of three games, falling to Louisville three weeks ago and then North Carolina on a last-second field goal last time out.

The Seminoles have taken their lumps early and are hoping to turn it around. While the Hurricanes are the favorites, they haven’t faced the same caliber of competition as Florida State.

The Seminoles can get back on track with an upset win against Miami in a game that could be ugly because of the weather condition.
