Week 7 College Football Odds - Nebraska Cornhuskers at Indiana Hoosiers Game Preview

2016-NCAAF-Nebraska-at-Indiana-Betting-Lines

The Nebraska Cornhuskers have climbed into the top 10 of the national rankings and are one of the final undefeated teams remaining. They will aim to keep it that way, but might not be as big of favorites as expected in a Week 7 contest against the Indiana Hoosiers.

Nebraska has some nice numbers but has not played a very hard schedule, so it will be interesting to see how the team fares on the road against a solid foe. Indiana is 3-2 overall and has a win over Michigan State, with its lone conference loss coming to Ohio State.

Watch this regular season Week 7 matchup live on Saturday, October 15, 2016, at 3:30 p.m. ET at Memorial Stadium.

Nebraska -3.5

Indiana +3.5

Over/Under 55.5

Odds Analysis

The spread might be closer than some would think, but not the sharp bettors. More than 51 percent of the money is going on the Hoosiers, as they could lose by a field goal at home and still cover this spread.

The scoring total could be a tad low since 68 percent of the early money is jumping on the “over” for this game.

Key Stat

37. That’s the number of points the Nebraska offense is averaging per game this year. The unit is accumulating an average of 472.6 yards a game behind a balanced attack.

The team defeated Illinois 31-16 in its most recent contest on October 1st and will have fresh legs this week after a bye. Nebraska is capable of shredding defenses both on the ground and in the air so it’s tough to stop.

Quarterback Tommy Armstrong Jr. has thrown for 1,151 yards with nine touchdowns and two interceptions. The rushing attack is lead by a two-headed monster in Terrell Newby and Devine Ozigbo who have combined for 645 yards and seven touchdowns.

Nebraska’s leading receiver is Alonzo Moore. He is a big play threat who has only 12 catches but has turned that into 310 yards and two touchdowns.

Matchup to Watch

Indiana quarterback Richard Lagow against the Nebraska pass defense - Lagow’s accuracy and pass protection pose one of the biggest threats for the Cornhuskers thus far in 2016.

The Hoosiers are averaging 293 passing yards a game this season while the Nebraska defense is holding teams to 195 yards a game.

Lagow has thrown for 1,460 yards with 11 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Five of those interceptions came in the 33-28 loss to Wake Forest on September 24th. If Lagow can take care of the ball, it will give his team a solid chance.

This matchup will be key if Indiana has any hope of an upset.

Free ATS Pick

Nebraska may be in the top 10 but still has a lot to prove. There are road games upcoming against Wisconsin and Ohio State which will really determine the Cornhuskers’ fate, but they would love to go into those games with a pristine record.

Nebraska has picked up a key win early against Oregon and has knocked off Northwestern and Illinois in the Big Ten, but the road now gets tougher.

Indiana isn’t a traditional college football power but has been good this year. The Hoosiers picked up a nice win over the Spartans and the loss to Wake Forest seems like an outlier because of the aforementioned turnover problems.

The Cornhuskers won’t have it easy, but they are still the better team. Stark reality will likely present itself later on against the Badgers and Buckeyes, but expect Nebraska to move to 6-0 with a road victory in this one.

It should come down to the wire, so take Indiana to cover even though it’s not a very big spread. The “under” is the right call as both defenses should step up.
