Week 9 College Football Odds - Kansas Wildcats at Oklahoma Sooners Game Preview

2016-NCAAF-Kansas-at-Oklahoma-Betting-Lines

The Oklahoma Sooners put up mind-boggling offensive numbers in a 66-59 win over Texas Tech. The fireworks are expected to continue in Week 9 against the Kansas Jayhawks, although it’s likely to be one-sided this time around.

Oklahoma is a humongous favorite to take care of business at home and remain undefeated in Big 12 play. While the Jayhawks have little hope for the upset, the spread is so large they can certainly cover if they play well enough for certain phases of the game.

This contest in Week 9 of the regular season will go down Saturday, October 29, 2016, at 7 p.m. ET at Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.

Odds Analysis

It’s extremely rare to see a conference game with a 40-point spread, and the majority of bettors have a hard time seeing the Sooners cover. More than 57 percent of the action is going on Kansas with such a cushion to start with.

Even though Oklahoma scored 66 points by themselves last week and combined with Texas Tech for a ridiculous 127, most of the early money is choosing the “under” on this total. Since Oklahoma is expected to jump out to a big lead, it could get off the gas and cruise, which will lower the point total.

Oklahoma is 5-2 straight up this season but only 1-6 against the spread, which is something to remember heading into this game. While Kansas is only 1-6 straight up, it has fared better against the spread with a record of 3-4. However, the Jayhawks have failed to cover in any of their three road games.

Matchup to Watch

Montell Cozart vs. Oklahoma pass defense - Kansas’ best shot at covering the spread will be by getting its passing game rolling. Cozart has not been very good this season, throwing for 831 yards with seven touchdowns and six interceptions.

The Sooners’ secondary is vulnerable, as it gave up an unbelievable 734 passing yards on 88 passing attempts to Patrick Mahomes last time out. Cozart doesn’t have nearly that talent and the Kansas offense doesn’t air it out that much, but the Jayhawks need to move the ball effectively through the air to have a prayer.

Oklahoma is allowing 36.7 points per game but should do much better in this one as Kansas doesn’t have the type of personnel that many of the other teams do within the conference.

Player to Watch

Dede Westbrook - Oklahoma’s top receiver has scored ten touchdowns in the last four games. In that span, he has caught 35 passes for 776 yards and now holds the record at Oklahoma for receiving yards in a four-game stretch.

It’s safe to say the senior receiver is hitting his stride and he will enter the game against Kansas Saturday on a high note. Westbrook has 52 catches for 930 yards on the season.

He was one of several standouts against Texas Tech, catching nine passes for 202 yards and a pair of scores as the Oklahoma offense rolled up a ridiculous 854 yards in offense without turning the ball over.

Free ATS Pick

There’s no drama as to which team will win this game. Oklahoma’s offense was awesome last time out and will feel little resistance from the Kansas defenders.

Quarterback Baker Mayfield and running back Joe Mixon should have big days again as Oklahoma stays up front in the conference race. However, 40 points is a huge spread.

The Sooners aren’t going to score as much once they wrest control early in the second half. Expect to see a lot of running down the stretch, which will allow the Jayhawks to cover and the “under” to be the correct call in this matchup.
