Expect another wild shootout on Saturday in the Lone Star State, as the Baylor Bears and the West Virginia Mountaineers could really light up the scoreboard.
ODDS ANALYSIS
Perhaps it's just going to become commonplace for Baylor games to have totals in the high-70s. The number opened up at 75, only to move up to 78 in the first 12 hours of the college football betting lines being open to the public.
The Bears have also steamed quite a bit from an opening line of -18 up to -21.
KEY MISMATCH
Remember when the West Virginia defense was hailed as one of the up and coming groups in the Big XII? Since that claim, the 'Neers have allowed 77 points to the two Oklahoma schools, and now, they have to face their biggest test against a well-rounded Baylor offense which can throw the ball and run the ball all over the place.
We're just not sure where the Mountaineers are getting stops from in this game. Sure, they picked off Mason Rudolph three times last week, but Seth Russell only has turned the ball over five times on 130 passing attempts, and he has 22 touchdowns to show for his work as well.
KEY STAT
9.6 – The number of yards per carry Shock Linwood is averaging this year for the Bears. In fact, Baylor as a team is good for a stunning 7.4 yards per carry and 9.1 yards per play, something that the West Virginia defense is going to probably be afraid of all week long leading up to this game.
BETTING ANGLE
The Bears are 4-0 ATS in their last four conference games dating back to last season. They've scored at least 38 points in all of those conference games ever since they were beaten by this West Virginia outfit last year, and it'd be shocking to see them fail to get back into the high-30s, if not significantly higher, in this one.
ANALYSIS AND PREDICTION
This is a revenge spot for Baylor after losing in Morgantown last season in a game which cost it a spot in the CFP, and we think it's going to show against a team which is still overrated for our money.
What you don't realize about the Bears is that they play defense better than you think. Sure, Texas Tech scored 35 points and put up 636 yards against this unit, but if we step back for a second and put this all into its proper perspective, Baylor is allowing less than five yards per play, a stunningly low figure.
If the Mountaineers have any missteps whatsoever on offense, they're going to pay for it. They've turned the ball over nine times in their last two games, five of which were lost via fumbles, and those turnovers have come back to really bite them in the backside.
All of your offensive problems are magnified when you're playing against a team like Baylor.
If you think the Bears are going to be held to just over 300 yards and 27 points as was the case last year in Morgantown, you've got another thing coming. This one reeks of a massive blowout in favor of the hosts.
