The Pittsburgh Steelers will travel to Gillette Stadium to battle the defending Super bowl champion New England Patriots in a little over three weeks. Hopefully you’ve already begun your preseason research and are ready to tackle the 2015-16 season at BookMaker.

Crunching numbers to gain edges on future point spreads and totals is all fine and dandy, but if you got your ear to the ground for bigger game, then you just might want to look into the enormous big money daily fantasy sports contests going down the first week of the season.

For those not yet in the know of what DFS is all about, here’s a crash course.

You assemble your respective squad from the player’s pool. Each player carries a salary. In order to have an official lineup, you must remain at the salary cap or below. It’s that simple.

However, the better a player is perceived to be, the higher his salary will cost. That means it’s extremely tough to roster studs at each and every position. To get in the money, you must find some diamonds in the rough that cost next to nothing and hope they play way beyond their expected values.

That will be the key in taking home a supersized check in Week 1.

Most of the highly accredited and popular DFS sites are throwing millions of dollars at prospective winners to kick off the season. Yes, you read that correctly – Millions of Dollars!

Currently, the two biggest sites in the DFS industry are DraftKings and FanDuel. Each has partnered up with professional sports leagues as well as individual teams. If you haven’t heard of either of these two companies, you likely haven’t been watching much of ESPN, FS1, or the MLB and NFL Networks.

There isn’t a commercial break that goes by without one of these two billion dollar companies airing TV spots.

Though FanDuel was the first to dominate the DFS landscape, DraftKings quickly gained ground by getting some huge investment money and immediately giving it back to its customer base by offering up million dollar payout contests.

DK just crowned millionaire No. 19 on August 15 in the 2015 Fantasy Baseball World Championship, and is going above and beyond in offering up two contests with at least a million dollars in play for Week 1.

The $1M Play-Action is just the appetizer to the main course, but it will be paying out $100k to the first place finisher; you can enter this contest for just $3 per roster.

The main course will crown two more millionaires with the first place finisher taking home $2 million and the runner up $1 million; this contest costs $20 to enter with a max of 500 entries. The top 84,950 finishers will be paid out!

Not to be outdone, FanDuel will open up its 2015 campaign with the $5M NFL Sunday Million with a million dollars going to first place and the top 2500 finishers all winning at least $100. It costs $25 to enter with a max of 1000 entries.

As you can see, you can make a whole lot of money at a limited cost, but you must be smart with how you go about drafting your lineup.

Yahoo and PokerStars recently got into the DFS landscape with Daily Fantasy and StarsDraft respectively, but neither has yet to announce any big money contests for the upcoming NFL season. With each company having very deep pockets, you can be sure to see contest offerings that rival those of FanDuel and DraftKings as each site picks up steam.

And to think, there’s 17 weeks in the regular season plus the playoffs to maximize your DFS dollar. It’s a very exciting time in the daily fantasy sports industry right now, and it only looks to be getting bigger.

If you haven’t tested the DFS waters as of yet, I highly suggest you stick a toe in Week 1.
