Broncos' lacking passing game could setup live bettors for success against Chiefs

Even though both the Denver Broncos and the Kansas City Chiefs are 1-0 SU and ATS thus far in 2015, there is a clear divide in the opinions of these two teams heading into Thursday Night Football.

Live bettors are very likely going to end up being the beneficiaries.

WHEN THE KANSAS CITY CHIEFS HAVE THE BALL

The Chiefs made their game plan very clear last week against the Texans when they jumped out to a 27-6 lead before coasting in to a 27-20 victory. They're going to get the ball in the hands of Jamaal Charles as often as they can, and when they need to use the passing game, they're going to utilize Travis Kelce and Jeremy Maclin.

The only bad news for live bettors is that the KC offense is more explosive now than it was before, making it less predictable as we go. The time is going to come that Maclin catches a 50-yard pass, and when that happens, it's going to throw off total bettors a ton.

That said, the Broncos had no troubles slowing down the relatively stagnant short passing game of the Ravens last week, and this is a relatively similar offense. That could be a sign for live bettors to fade the Chiefs when they have the ball in their possession, but it could be an even bigger sign to play the under at that point.

WHEN THE DENVER BRONCOS HAVE THE BALL

Peyton Manning's arm literally looked like a wet noodle against the Ravens on Sunday. He wasn't crisp with any of his passes, he showed no arm strength whatsoever, and all of his passes which went towards the sidelines felt like they took an hour and a half to get to their intended target.

As a result, Manning ended that game averaging just 4.38 yards per pass attempt, the lowest in his Hall of Fame career. The Broncos didn't reach the red zone until the fourth quarter, and they didn't score an offensive touchdown the entire game.

C.J. Anderson and Demaryius Thomas both got dinged up in the win, and though both should be playing on Thursday, both will surely be hampered by the fact that this game is played on a short week.

And we're supposed to have confidence in this unit? One which is already playing without Ryan Clady and is going against one of the best pass rushing tandems in the league in Justin Houston and Tamba Hali? It’s a really tough sell to us.

Live bettors should expect to see a lot of slow, plodding drives by the Broncos, and if they are in a position at the end of the game to kill the clock, few are as good at doing so as Manning, even in this close-to-decrepit form he is in at the end of his career.

TREND TO TRACK

We've talked a lot about the under for live bettors in this game, and here's yet another reason why. The under is 7-1-1 in the last nine games in this series, including going 2-0 in last year's games. It should be noted that both games were at least close to the matching totals of 49, as there were 41 points in the September meeting and 45 in the November one.

Still, this total has been dropping like a rock all week long. The number opened up at 46 on Sunday night, and it has already come down to 42. All of that action can't be wrong, and live bettors should be following that closely in live betting.
