The rivalry between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Cleveland Browns is one of the most underrated in the NFL.
These two teams will get together on Thursday Night Football in what might be a sneaky tough game for the 7-0 Bengals.
WHEN THE CINCINNATI BENGALS HAVE THE BALL
A.J. Green has had a miserable history against the Browns in his career, but he's always been matched up with Joe Haden, one of the top cover corners in the league.
Now all of a sudden, Haden suffered a concussion last week against the Cardinals, and it's a question mark who is going end up having to deal with one of the best receivers in the NFL. Remember too, that Donte Whitner suffered a concussion last week too, and that's only going to make things more difficult.
The Bengals have scored at least 24 points in all but one of their games this year. Hue Jackson has one of the brightest offensive minds in the game, and he's going to find a way to get Green in some good spots. Live bettors should remember that this offense is one of the most explosive in the NFL, and any given play could be worth seven points.
Andy Dalton has grown up a lot this year, and he now has two tremendous comebacks against great teams in Pittsburgh and Seattle. That said, he still hasn't played well in primetime in his history, and in fact, last year in this very same fixture at home against Cleveland on Thursday Night Football, he went 10-of-33 for 86 yards with three picks. Live bettors have to gauge which Dalton we're going to see on Sunday.
WHEN THE CLEVELAND BROWNS HAVE THE BALL
The Browns are pretty much reduced to just throwing the ball all over the field. They have no ground game whatsoever, and they haven't averaged even four yards per carry in four straight games. For our money, this offense is at its best when Duke Johnson is in the backfield. He isn't a great runner at this point in his career, but the rookie has a knack for catching passes out of the backfield.
Josh McCown has already thrown the ball 254 times in just seven games, and we know he's capable of throwing for 400 yards in a game if need be like he did against Baltimore.
That said, the Bengals know that Gary Barnidge is the big red zone threat, while Travis Benjamin is the best man to put points on the board in a hurry. If those two guys are shut down, the Browns have absolutely nothing offensively.
Cincinnati's defense can be lights out in this game if the Browns become one-dimensional, and live bettors should be prepared to see a lot of punts from Andy Lee as a result.
TREND TO TRACK
The Browns have played seven of their eight games past the total this year, but this is the first time they've played a game with a number to beat that this beyond 46.
Cincinnati too, has been a big time over team this year, going 5-2 towards the over. The Bengals had played four straight over games before last week's 16-10 slugfest against the Steelers.
With two major defensive injuries on the Cleveland side of the ball, the Bengals are very likely going to end up scoring at least 24 once again, and that's going to put this game well on the path to once again go past the total.
