If you had told bettors that one of these teams on Monday Night Football in Week 2 was going to be 1-0, while the other was going to be 0-1, most probably would have gotten it wrong.
As it is, the Indianapolis Colts are the ones under the pressure of the 0-1 start, and they could be in trouble against the New York Jets if they don't play better ball than they did eight days ago.
WHEN THE INDIANAPOLIS COLTS HAVE THE BALL
The real key here for live bettors is analyzing how much time Andrew Luck is going to spend with the ball in his hands when he gets it from under center. The Indianapolis offensive line was miserable against the Bills last week, and that's why the team didn't get on the scoreboard until early in the fourth quarter.
The end result for Luck against Buffalo was a lot of short passes. For an aerial passing game, averaging less than five yards per pass attempt as the Colts managed last week against the Bills is stunning.
Indy is going to have to get more out of its ground game with Frank Gore than it did last week to be successful in live betting as well. Eight carries and 31 yards for the Colts' top back isn't going to cut it on Monday.
Remember too that T.Y. Hilton isn't going to be playing in this game either. Andre Johnson only caught 4-of-10 passes thrown his way last week, and he too has to be better than he was last week.
Needless to say, that's a lot that has to change if the Colts are going to be successful for live bettors. Before you just go and blindly bet on the favored side every step of the way in this one, keep a close eye on what Luck and his crew are actually doing when they get their hands on the football.
WHEN THE NEW YORK JETS HAVE THE BALL
Clearly, the Jets have a plan here that has to work if they are going to excel in live betting in this game. They worked that plan to perfection last week against the Browns when they ran the ball 36 times. If they can run it 30+ times in this one, they should have a chance to win this game. If they don't though, can Ryan Fitzpatrick really throw the ball 30+ times and win? It's highly unlikely.
The big problem with live betting on New York if it has to win this game from behind is that Fitzpatrick is prone to the big turnover. He only threw eight picks last season, but he also fumbled the ball six times, too. That's just far too many turnovers in 12 games as he played last year before getting hurt when he was playing with the Texans.
The Colts made Tyrod Taylor look great last week, and the ground game for the Bills was unstoppable. If the Jets can manage 36 carries and 147 yards as Buffalo, there is going to be a legitimate chance for an upset.
TREND TO TRACK
The Jets have covered four straight games overall dating back to last season. What's better for live bettors is the fact that they haven't been beaten by more than seven points in a game since Thanksgiving weekend last year, a string of six straight games.
It's going to be tough for the Colts to cover this game. Especially if Indianapolis gets off to a quick start in this game, it will certainly be tempting to take the points with the Jets in live betting. Just know if this game gets too far out of hand though, that the visitors are going to struggle to catch up with a poor quarterback and a subpar set of receivers.
