Conservative Kansas City Chiefs not built for great success against Chicago Bears

The Kansas City Chiefs might very well go on to win 10 games this season, but it's really tough the way they're built to see how they are going to cover double-digit spreads against even the worst teams in the NFL. That said, live bettors might have a really great opportunity this week to go against the grain just a bit when the Chicago Bears come to Arrowhead.

WHEN THE KANSAS CITY CHIEFS HAVE THE BALL

Seven drives got into scoring range last week for Kansas City, and seven times, Cairo Santos had to trot onto the field to settle for three points.

There's just something wrong with the way this offense is operating for Andy Reid, and we aren't fond of what's going on. Alex Smith looks even more scared to throw the ball down the field now than he was in the past, and that's saying something. He's completing a lot of passes to Jeremy Maclin, but there's just a degree of discomfort that still looks like it's apparent. Smith is holding onto the ball way too long, and he has been sacked more than any other quarterback in the league as a result.

That said, it should be a field day for Jamaal Charles. The Bears stink defensively, and they more holes than a slice of Swiss cheese. Jared Allen is gone, robbing the club of its best pass rusher, and though last week's game against Oakland was won, this is a far different challenge on the road in what might be the most hostile environment this side of Seattle in the NFL.

WHEN THE CHICAGO BEARS HAVE THE BALL

This is where live bettors could really make a winning bet happen. It's tough to just Jay Cutler. He's going to turn the ball over in this game. We know it, the Chiefs know it, and heck, he probably knows it, too. Justin Houston is going to come off of the edge and make something happen against a porous offensive line, and Cutler is going to make a decision or two which will cost the Bears points and maybe even put them on the other side of the scoreboard, too.

However, things can't get much worse than they are right now for Chicago. Alshon Jeffrey really hasn't played at all this year thanks to a hamstring problem, but it seems like this is the week he is going to get back on the field. That could open things up for Eddie Royal to go back to being a second receiver, and Martellus Bennett could have more field to work with, too.

The X-factor is Matt Forte. He hasn't been used as a receiver quite as much this year, but Forte still has a nose for the end zone, and his success in short yardage situations is remarkable. The Chiefs haven't been able to make big, timely stops on defense all year long. If you're taking the points in live betting, getting Chicago to keep drives alive in good situations is crucial.

TREND TO TRACK

The under is 5-2 in Chicago's last seven games overall. That's not the most impressive streak in the world, especially knowing that the team has scored at least 22 points in three out of four games this year, if you can believe that. However, it is a sign that the Chiefs' streak of four straight over games to kick off 2015 might be in jeopardy.

Live bettors can expect to see conservative play for the most part in this one, and that will promote long drives. With as bad as these units have been in the red zone, three will probably be the result more often than seven, and that would lead to what should be a net positive for under backers in live betting.
