You're not going to find any matchup from man No. 1 to man No. 53 where the San Francisco 49ers have an advantage against the Green Bay Packers. However, intangibles could give the Niners an edge in live betting in this game.
WHEN THE GREEN BAY PACKERS HAVE THE BALL
It's so easy to live bet on Green Bay at every turn. Aaron Rodgers is the best quarterback in the NFL from our standpoint, and last week's five touchdown showing against the Chiefs is proof that he can go off whenever he wants.
James Jones isn't quite Jordy Nelson, but he has turned into a great second receiver. Randall Cobb has been a great red zone threat as well.
Eddie Lacy didn't quite look healthy against the Chiefs, but we suspect that another six days before this game is going to get him back on track, which is going to make this offense all the more lethal.
The 49ers have been miserable defensively. They have allowed over 40 points in consecutive games, including a whopping 14 plays which have covered at least 20 yards. If the Packers get a 20-yard play in a drive, they're going to score the mass majority of the time, so that's a trend to continue to watch for live betting purposes.
WHEN THE SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS HAVE THE BALL
Colin Kaepernick arguably had the worst game for any quarterback over the course of the last several years last week. Arizona's defenders actually had more yards on interceptions than San Francisco's receivers had in receiving yards. Clearly, Kaepernick shouldn't have almost as many picks as completions again in this game, and we should remember that though he hasn't been great, he wasn't one of the worst quarterbacks in the league until that disaster of a game.
Jim Tomsula is going to continue to run the football no matter what the score is, and that could at least keep the clock running to shorten this game.
The Packers picked up seven sacks last week of Alex Smith, but they have had little luck against mobile quarterbacks in the past due to their aggression. If Clay Matthews isn't running down Kaepernick, we're not sure who is going to do so.
Kaepernick has to make plays with his legs, and if he is able to do so to open up the passing game, the 49ers could look completely different offensively from the team which was so atrocious last week against Arizona.
TREND TO TRACK
Betting is all one-way action so far on the Packers. We're only 24 hours or so into betting action in this game, but over 90 percent of the bets have come in on Green Bay. The line has pushed up from -7 to -8.5, which makes Green Bay the biggest road favorite thus far this year.
Road favorites though, don't have a good history in the NFL, particularly those of the huge variety as the Packers are.
It's also worth remembering that the Packers have had no luck against the 49ers of late. Green Bay has failed four straight times to beat San Fran, going just 1-3 ATS in those duels. Kaepernick has had three fantastic games in his career against this defense, and if there is a 'D' which he can torch, this is the one. Live bettors should most certainly keep that in mind instead of just taking the plunge on the Pack every step of the way.
