DeMarco Murray sure to be popular pick to score first TD for Eagles against former mates, Cowboys

With all due respect to the Giants and the Redskins, the NFC East is a two-team race in 2015. The Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles should be going back and forth with one another all season long in this division, making this Week 2 game in the City of Brotherly Love incredibly vital.

The first touchdown in games like this are always real trend-setters. That's not to say that the team which scores first is surely going to end up winning this game, but clearly, both Chip Kelly and Jason Garrett are going to want to get off to good starts, especially after both teams struggled offensively in the first half of their Week 1 games.

Going into last week, it would have been common logic to think that either DeMarco Murray or Dez Bryant would score the first touchdown of this game. However, now that Bryant is out with a broken foot, we're not really all that sure what the Cowboys are going to do for their top offensive stars.

But before we talk about Dallas, we should note that Murray is going to be the overwhelming favorite to score the first TD of the game. Is it justified, though? Hardly from where we're sitting.

Sure, Murray scored a pair of touchdowns against the Falcons on Monday night, but we think it's pretty clear that he isn't going to be the man on the field in the most clutch situations down by the goal line. Ryan Mathews is a little better built to run between the tackles in short distances, and he has a better history of running on 3rd and short downs, too. He pilfered one touchdown from Murray on Monday, and he could do the same thing again in this game.

Don't discount the fact that Darren Sproles is going to have a ton of catches again this season out of the backfield.

Jordan Matthews will be amongst the Philadelphia favorites too, knowing that he had 10 catches on 13 targets last week, both of which were easily team-highs.

But let's go back to the Cowboys, because there might be a lot of intriguing options here for prop bettors looking for a great price on who will score the first touchdown of this game.

The running back situation is still muddled in Dallas as far as we are concerned. Sure, Joseph Randle is going to start, but we would have a lot more confidence down on the goal line betting on Jason Witten than anyone else, knowing that he had two second half touchdowns last week against the Giants.

But the man of the hour in our eyes is Terrance Williams. Williams was targeted eight times last week, catching six passes for 60 yards, but what we love about him is his ability to stretch out the field.

The Eagles are going to inevitably try to get after Tony Romo in a hurry and force him to make decisions throwing the ball to inexperienced wide receivers. However, with this awesome offensive line in front of him, Romo should have all day to throw the ball. Williams can get down the field in a blur. There's a reason he's averaged near 17 yards per catch for his career, and he has five touchdowns already in his young career which have covered at least 30 yards.

Particularly if you think this is going to be a high-scoring games where points are going to be fast and furious, betting on Williams to score the first touchdown might not be a bad idea, particularly with Bryant out of the lineup.
