The argument could be made that the Seattle Seahawks have been awfully lucky this year.
Their schedule has consisted of the 1-2 Rams and the 0-3 Bears, and now, they get the 0-3 Detroit Lions on Monday Night Football.
WHEN THE SEATTLE SEAHAWKS HAVE THE BALL
Even though the Seahawks broke their maiden in 2015 last week, we still think there is a lot wrong with this offense. They just aren't running the ball with the same ferocity they are used to. Maybe some of that is due to the fact that Marshawn Lynch just isn't right. He had a hamstring issue last week which limited him against the Bears, and that gave the opportunity for Thomas Rawls to pound the rock.
Still, the fact that it took Russell Wilson and this offense seven drives and two and a half quarters to score a touchdown against the lowly Bears last week is bothersome. Yes, Jimmy Graham got in the end zone, but he has largely been an afterthought, and it almost felt like Wilson was forcing the ball to him to keep him happy a week after he spoke out in the media.
The Lions' defense is still pretty darn good, though if both Ziggy Ansah and DeAndre Levy are out as expected, live bettors know that there are some holes which can be picked apart.
WHEN THE DETROIT LIONS HAVE THE BALL
This is where live bettors can really have a field day. How in the heck are the Lions are going to score points on this defense? Richard Sherman should be locking down Calvin Johnson, and if Golden Tate is really right that defenses know what plays are being run by this Detroit offense, we can't imagine that he is going to be getting loose any time in the near future either.
The ground game for Detroit has been non-existent as well. Joique Bell is averaging 1.1 yards per carry this year, and rookie Ameer Abdullah has just two plays for more than 10 yards in his young career.
This isn't exactly the best time to be going against a Seahawks defense which just shut out the Bears. We grant you the fact that Matt Stafford is nowhere near as bad as Jimmy Clausen, and Detroit has far more weapons than the Bears did without Alshon Jeffrey in the lineup.
That said, it’s got to be tempting for live bettors to look at what this Seattle defense is capable of in terms of rushing the passer, especially when you consider just how bad this offensive line is for the Lions.
TREND TO TRACK
Seattle's home record is absolutely sparkling. Wilson has still only been beaten twice at home in his entire career, including in the playoffs, and he has a stunning ATS mark as well.
What's really notable though, is what the Seahawks do when they are double-digit favorites as they will likely end up being in this encounter. They are 7-1 ATS in their last eight games including the postseason when they are favored by more than a touchdown, including going 5-0 ATS when laying double digits.
The Lions are also 0-5 ATS in their last five games as underdogs in the regular season, and they haven't won a game SU in which they were dogs by more than a field goal since November of 2012.
