Fantasy football betting - Derek Carr and other fantasy football deep quarterback sleepers could be key pieces in 2016

Fantasy-Deep-Sleepers---Quarterback-bm-km

There are many different strategies when it comes to fantasy football, and one is waiting until late to grab a fantasy football quarterback. Some of the best signal-callers on the fantasy scene include established stars like Cam Newton, Aaron Rodgers and Ben Roethlisberger. However, selecting one of those players means passing up on a legitimate force at wide receiver, running back or tight end. By waiting for a fantasy quarterback sleeper, there is higher risk but potentially higher reward in fantasy football betting.

If the choice is one of the players ranked in the bottom fourth of the starting quarterback rankings, it’s also imperative to grab a high-upside signal-caller behind them to better the chances of having an effective player at the position. Additionally, even the best quarterbacks can get hurt, so deep sleeper backups can play a huge factor in fantasy football championship standings.

One of the top deep sleepers is Raiders quarterback Derek Carr. He has an elite wide receiving option in Amari Cooper, and Carr is entering the all-important third year. He had a breakout season in 2015, and if Carr continues to improve he is a viable lower-tier starting quarterback.

Tony Romo is a former fantasy star, but he’s at the back end of his career and is very injury-prone. Romo could be a good choice for owners with another good option, because when he’s healthy, Romo is still capable of putting up QB1 numbers.

Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota was up and down as a rookie, but he has an intriguing skill-set. He should improve this season passing the ball and has the scrambling ability that can really pay off. The receivers in Tennessee are questionable but the offensive line is better, so it will be interesting to see if Mariota can have a breakout year.

Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan has one of the biggest stars at wideout in Julio Jones. Ryan had his struggles a season ago, but if Jones and new signee Mohamed Sanu can get open consistently, his numbers could rebound quickly.

Jameis Winston, like Mariota, is a second-year signal-caller who hopes to take a big leap. Receiver Mike Evans is a star and there are some other talented pieces on the Tampa Bay offense. As the former No. 1 overall pick, the pedigree is there for Winston.

Even though players like the Washington Redskins’ Kirk Cousins, the Detroit Lions’ Matthew Stafford and the Buffalo Bills’ Tyrod Taylor are ranked similarly to these other players, they might not be great choices. There is less upside in the trio, and a player like Cousins could have a hard time duplicating his 2015 year.

The world of deep fantasy quarterback sleepers is a tricky one, because choosing a high-upside player who doesn’t pan out can be a wasted pick. However, the likes of Romo, Mariota, Carr, Ryan and Winston have the talent to pay off, either as a simple bye week play or as something more in fantasy football betting.
