Fantasy football betting - Falcons running back Devonta Freeman and other potential 2016 fantasy football busts

In fantasy football, there is nothing better than finding a late-round sleeper to add to a strong core of players. Alternatively, there is nothing worse than drafting a player to have a big role and watching them fall short of expectations. Avoiding potential draft busts is important for every team, and below are a list of players who could be buyer beware in 2016 in fantasy football betting.

Falcons running back Devonta Freeman had a breakout season in 2015, rushing for 1,056 yards and 11 touchdowns while also adding 578 receiving yards and three scores. He seems unlikely to match that touchdown total, and it’s not smart to pay for them. Freeman is a solid option because he has regular carries and can catch the ball, but a repeat of 2015 might not be in the cards.

Cardinals running back David Johnson also made the most of his touches with 13 touchdowns a season ago, and he’s moved into the starting running back role in Arizona. The question is if he will get as many touches as is worthy of a high first-round pick. Johnson looks like a special talent running and catching the ball, so he should be dynamic with the ball in his hands. However, if he finds himself in a timeshare with backups Chris Johnson and Andre Ellington, it could limit David Johnson’s ceiling.

Panthers wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin missed all of last season due to a torn ACL but registered more than 1,000 yards receiving as a rookie. He should plug in and be Cam Newton’s top receiver in 2016. However, Newton had a career year in 2015, and if he takes a step back, Benjamin’s receiving totals may not be as high as hoped.

The Jaguars’ Blake Bortles put up nice fantasy numbers in 2015, and returns the impressive receiving duo of Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns. The issue is that he put up some of those numbers late because the team tended to be losing. If Jacksonville is more competitive this season, they won’t need Bortles to bomb the ball in the second halves as much, which could affect his fantasy football viability. Bortles is an intriguing backup, but might not pay off as a starter.

Bears running back Jeremy Langford is the starter in Chicago after the departure of Matt Forte, and any tailback in line for carries has value. However, Jordan Howard was taken in the draft, and if he dips into those carries, Langford will quickly lose value.

Browns tight end Gary Barnidge set career highs last season, but now has a dual-threat quarterback at the helm. He doesn’t have the type of track record to be counted on as a top tight end in fantasy. There are plenty of other players who may not live up to expectations, and it’s key to identify them early and avoid them in fantasy football betting.
