Timeshares. Every fantasy football player hates them when it comes to running backs, which is why it is so darn valuable to have a back like a Marshawn Lynch in your lineup on a weekly basis, whether it be on your regular fantasy team or your daily fantasy team. You hate to pick the wrong running back in a timeshare and end up being the guy who is playing a back who has four carries for 12 yards.
However, timeshares are a fact of life in the NFL right now, and that makes life quite hard on the average fantasy football player.
At BookMaker Sportsbook though, we have a different take on daily fantasy, that being the head-to-head matchup based on a slightly different scale than what you see in your average league. Touchdowns matter and matter a ton, and that's why we think that DeMarco Murray, regardless as to whether he plays or not, is a poor choice against Matt Jones even though both men are stuck in timeshares at the moment.
Of course, before we get into the meat and potatoes of this matchup, it should be noted that the game very well might not happen if Hurricane Joaquin has anything to say about it. If Joaquin slows down a bit over the course of the next couple days, this game could just be played in miserable conditions instead of getting postponed or moved to a different city. Here's the bottom line, though. If nothing changes and this game is played as scheduled, you won't be seeing much in the way of throwing the pill.
You'd think that would favor Murray in a high-octane offense. And yes, it's a great sign for the Eagles that they were able to get both Ryan Mathews and Darren Sproles going against the Jets last week after Murray amassed a total of 11 yards on 21 carries in his first two games with his new team. We don't think it's going to matter against Washington, though, especially if Murray is still dealing with a hamstring problem.
Even a game in which Murray gets 20 carries won't net him that much in the way of fantasy points if he doesn't get in the end zone. Both Mathews and Sproles are much more likely to carry the rock down near the goal line than Murray is, which means that it would take a long run for the 2014 rushing champ to get in the end zone.
That's why it's worth remembering Jones, even though he is only going to be splitting carries at best with Alfred Morris, and we know he isn't going to be on the field in passing downs either.
Jones though, is the more powerful of the two Washington runners, and he is more likely to end up in the end zone than either his running mate, Morris or his opponent here in Murray. One touchdown is the equivalent of 24 carries or 120 rushing yards by BookMaker fantasy standards, and in a running back situation in which neither man is going to be the featured back by himself, you can't forget the power of that touchdown.
Jones is the more likely man to find the end zone, and knowing that he is going to be a big underdog against Murray, he's the one we are going to want to back if this game ends up getting played on Sunday.
