The Falcons have the same personnel on offense as last year’s record-setting unit, but it hasn’t clicked as well without offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, who is now the coach of the San Francisco 49ers. Atlanta has a chance to get rolling in this game against a Jets defense that has talent but is vulnerable to giving up big plays.
The Jets would prefer not to get into a shootout in this matchup since the Falcons have the better passing game.
Kickoff for this regular season Week 8 game is set for Sunday, October 29, 2017, at 1 p.m. ET at MetLife Stadium.

New York Jets +3.5

Odds Analysis
The Jets may be home underdogs but this spread is much closer than many thought it would be to open the season. The Falcons look like a great bet as people are overreacting to their slow start. More than 71 percent of the early action is on Atlanta to cover this spread.
The scoring total is lower than most Falcons games but that’s because their offense hasn’t performed as expected. The “over” and the “under” are getting action at a similar rate, which means the total has been correctly pegged.
Key Stat
3. That’s the number of wins for both teams this season, which would have been hard to fathom heading into 2017. There was no shame in Atlanta losing on the road last week to the New England Patriots, but it was a loss to Miami at home a pair of weeks ago that was a big surprise.
The Falcons still have a bunch of talent on both sides of the ball but need to start getting it going because the New Orleans Saints and Carolina Panthers are playing well and are in the same division.
The Jets are in last place in the AFC East but they are still within striking distance of the Dolphins and Bills ahead of them. New York was thought to be among the worst teams in the entire NFL this season but has already picked up victories over the Browns, Jaguars and Dolphins.
Player To Watch
Matt Ryan -- The Falcons’ quarterback is the reigning league MVP but has struggled this season. Ryan has thrown for 1,590 yards this season with seven touchdowns but has tossed six interceptions. His yard per attempt of 7.8 is much lower than last year.
Atlanta has the same offensive weapons, as Julio Jones is the star at receiver while Mohamed Sanu and Taylor Gabriel are the complementary pieces. The play-calling may not be as crisp without Shanahan leading the way but Ryan is a veteran quarterback who should be having more success than he has shown thus far.
Free ATS Pick
The Falcons have looked good in spurts this season but are scoring at a much lower clip than projected. The Jets have a defensive-minded coach in Todd Bowles and some nice pieces, so it will be a challenge for Atlanta.
On the other side of the ball, the Falcons should be able to have a nice game defensively against Josh McCown and the Jets. The Falcons may not have a perfect showing in this one, but this spread is much too low.
Jump on Atlanta to cover this spread, with the “under” the right call as the Jets could struggle to score.
NFL Odds: Falcons 28, Jets 17
