NFL ATS Picks - Buffalo Bills at Kansas City Chiefs Game Preview

2017-NFL-Bills-at-Chiefs-(CBS)-preview-Betting-Odds

A few weeks ago, both the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs looked to be on the short list of AFC contenders. Now they are reeling. Each team still is in playoff contention but needs to get it back together in a hurry to avoid falling by the wayside. The Bills will travel to face off against the Chiefs in a critical Week 12 showdown.

The Chiefs are at home and have proven to be a much better team this year, so they should definitely be favored. The Bills figure to go back to quarterback Tyrod Taylor after a disastrous one-game start for Nathan Peterman under center. Buffalo needs to get things turned around to stay ahead in the wild card race but it’s a tall task in this one.

Kickoff for this regular season Week 12 game is set for Sunday, November 26, 2017, at 1 p.m. ET at Arrowhead Stadium.

Odds Analysis

There is no line on this game yet. It could be influenced by Buffalo’s quarterback situation, which is somewhat in flux. If the veteran Taylor gets the call, the Bills will still be the underdog, but the spread will be closer than if the inexperienced Peterman is again tabbed for the start.

The scoring total could be lower than a typical NFL game as both offenses have struggled of late. Then again, Buffalo’s defense has been awful in the past few outings, so Kansas City may be able to turn it on in this one.

Injury Report

Kelvin Benjamin — The Bills wide receiver left Sunday’s loss to the Chargers in the first quarter and did not return. He was carted off the field during the opening drive after being injured on a tackle while hauling in pass from Peterman. His status moving forward is still unknown, although the cart is often an ominous sign.

Micah Hyde — The Bills safety also left Sunday’s game against the Chargers prematurely after suffering a knee injury. The severity of the injury is not yet known. Hyde had four tackles Sunday before leaving the game. He also has five interceptions this season for Buffalo.

Dee Ford —The Chiefs’ pass-rusher has been bothered by a back injury for much of the season and missed his second straight game with it on Sunday. Tamba Hali missed the game with a knee injury, as Kansas City was without two of its better players in the front seven. Keep an eye on their statuses for this one because they are important cogs defensively.

Player to Watch

Tyrod Taylor -- Buffalo’s quarterback was benched before the team’s Week 11 game against the Los Angeles Chargers in favor of the rookie Peterman. Well, clearly, that was a huge mistake. Peterman threw an ungodly five interceptions in the first half alone against Los Angeles before getting benched.

Taylor is a dual-threat signal-caller who doesn’t put up huge passing yardage numbers but is generally effective. It was head-scratching when Taylor was benched initially and while the Bills haven’t said who will start this game, it would be a shock if it isn’t Taylor.

Buffalo needs to get its ground-game going in order to have a chance at staying close in this matchup, and Taylor is an important part of that.

Free ATS Pick

The Chiefs lost a stunner last time out to the Giants to drop to 6-4 but still lead the AFC West and have a solid team. They are the more well-rounded squad and should be able to get back on track in this one.

The return of Taylor to the offense should help the Bills, but the other side of the ball is a huge concern. The Chiefs are a good running team and Buffalo hasn’t been able to slow anyone on the ground of late.

This is adding up to be a blowout for Kansas City. The Chiefs might be dealing with some speed bumps, but the Bills are cratering out. Buffalo’s struggles will continue with a loss, and the Chiefs will likely cover the spread as well in this one.

NFL Odds: Chiefs 31, Bills 17
