The Browns attempted to make a trade for Bengals quarterback AJ McCarron in exchange for a couple of draft picks last week, but the deal fell through when Cleveland failed to submit trade notification in time, coming up just moments short. It’s another blow for Browns who have struggled with rookie DeShone Kizer behind center. Cleveland will aim to drum up some offense but it won’t be easy in this matchup.
Kickoff for this regular season Week 10 game is set for Sunday, November 12, 2017, at 1 p.m. ET at Ford Field.
Odds Analysis
There is no line on this game yet as the Lions just played on Monday night and the oddsmakers had to make sure there were no significant injuries. Detroit will undoubtedly be the heavy favorite in this one, likely by double-digits. Keep an eye on the spread as it should come in soon.
The scoring total could be about normal for an NFL game. The Lions should be able to rack up the points, but Cleveland may not score a ton.
Injury Report
Josh Gordon — The talented wide receiver isn’t injured but he has been suspended from regular season play since the 2014 season. He has been conditionally reinstated to rejoin the Browns but can’t play again until late November. That’s a good thing for the Lions. Even though Gordon may be rusty, he is such an extreme talent that he can make an impact right away.
Corey Coleman -- Cleveland’s current No. 1 receiver is on the mend from a broken hand and was recently taken off injured reserve. However, he is not yet eligible to return for this one. If the Browns can eventually bring Coleman and Gordon into the fold, their passing offense could improve dramatically, but it figures to suffer in this one.
Taylor Decker -- The Lions’ starting left tackle has missed all season with a shoulder injury but was recently taken off the physically unable to perform list. Decker didn’t play in the win on Monday over the Packers and it remains to be seen if he can get back for this one. He would be a nice addition as the Browns feature No. 1 overall pick Myles Garrett, who has been impressive as an edge-rusher all year.
Player to Watch
Matthew Stafford -- The Lions’ quarterback is the biggest reason why Detroit is the strong favorite. He has thrown for 1,851 yards with 12 touchdowns against only four interceptions through the team’s first seven games. Stafford signed the richest deal in NFL history in the offseason and has lived up to that lofty standard.
The Lions don’t have much of a running game and rely a lot on Stafford’s arm. He has done a great job slinging it, but Detroit has had some big issues near the goal-line in the past few weeks. The Lions can probably still win this game without scoring touchdowns in the red zone but it could become a blowout if they capitalize regularly on those opportunities.
Free ATS Pick
The odds are the Browns win one of their final eight games, but it seems unlikely for it to happen in this one. Detroit’s defense has been better than advertised and the offense can move the ball with ease.
The spread is critical. Detroit is going to win, but by how much? Check back when the line is set up early in the week.
NFL Odds: Lions 31, Browns 13
