NFL ATS Picks - Dallas Cowboys at San Francisco 49ers Game Preview

2017-NFL-Cowboys-at-49ers-(FOX)-preview-Betting-Odds

The NFL’s hard luck team, the San Francisco 49ers, host the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday in a game that can be seen on FOX. The 49ers made some history they really didn’t want to make last week, as they lost their fifth straight game by three points or less. While the 49ers come into this Week 7 game at 0-6 SU, they are a profitable 4-2 ATS. They will be facing a Dallas team that has been a disappointment so far at 2-3 SU and ATS and one that will likely be missing Ezekiel Elliott for the next six games.

This contest in Week 7 of the regular season will go down Sunday, October 22, 2017, at 4:05 p.m. ET at Levi’s Stadium.

Odds Analysis

There has not been any substantial line movement on this game yet, but I think there is a good chance that bettors will take the 49ers before Sunday. The Cowboys will be without Elliott and the 49ers looked better on offense last week with C.J. Beathard running the show. And don’t forget that the 49ers have played five straight games decided by three points or less. I think there is a good chance the line on this game comes down from the current number of six.

Injury Report

Ezekiel Elliott – The Cowboys running back had his six-game suspension reinstated, so for now he is out until Week 13 against the Redskins. The legal process has been messy but it appears that Elliott is going to sit out this time for the full six games. Elliott has appealed to the Southern District of New York, so there is a chance everything could change, but for now Elliott is out.

Sean Lee – The key player on defense for Dallas is Lee and he has been dealing with a hamstring injury. Lee returned to practice in a limited way last week when Dallas was on a bye. You can make a strong case that he is more important to this team than Elliott, as the Cowboys simply can’t stop the run without Lee on the field. All indications point to Lee playing on Sunday, but his status is worth monitoring.

Rueben Foster – The 49ers have been without their rookie linebacker since opening week when he suffered an ankle sprain. The 49ers released NaVorro Bowman so they really need Foster on the field. He did take part in practice last week in limited fashion so there is a good chance he returns this week.

Matchup to Watch

The key matchup to watch in this game is the Dallas passing game against the San Francisco secondary. The Cowboys are not going to win games running the ball without Elliott, so it will be up to Dak Prescott to carry the load. He has a very favorable matchup on Sunday against a bad San Francisco secondary. The 49ers are 27th in the league in passing yards allowed at 262.3 per game. The 49ers have shown no ability to stop the pass this season and Prescott should have a field day throwing to Dez.

Free ATS Pick

Is this the week where the 49ers finally get over the hump and win a game? It would seem that everything is setting up for them to win with the Cowboys likely missing Elliott. The problem I have with taking San Francisco is that they are not a good team. They have only one playmaker on offense in Carlos Hyde and all reports have them looking to trade him. Beathard is better than Brian Hoyer but that isn’t saying much. And the defense for the 49ers is bad, especially against the pass. I will lay the points and take the Cowboys in this game. I also think there is some value in taking the over, as the Cowboys haven’t played well on defense and we already talked about how bad the San Francisco defense has been this season.

NFL Odds: Cowboys 31, 49ers 20
