NFL ATS Picks - Dallas Cowboys at Washington Redskins Game Preview

Cowboys-at-Redskins-(FOX)

The Dallas Cowboys scuffled early this season but turned it on in a big way in a rout of the 49ers last time out. They hope to continue making a move up the standings in a matchup against divisional foe the Washington Redskins in Week 8. Dallas entered the season as the NFC East favorites but it is the Eagles not only looking like the class of the division but one of the best teams in the NFL.

The Cowboys and Redskins are both 3-3 on the season and seem to have enough talent to push for a wild card berth if they can’t catch Philadelphia. That’s why this game is so critical and it should be competitive as the talent level is close.

Watch this regular season Week 8 matchup live on Sunday, October 29, 2017, at 1:25 p.m. ET at FedEx Field.

Odds Analysis

The Cowboys are slight road favorites and the majority of bettors like them to cover as more than 72 percent on the action against the spread is on Dallas. The line is intriguing right now since a field goal margin would result in a cover.

The scoring total suggests a high-scoring game is in the works. The majority of bettors believe it is a little too high as more than 56 percent of the action is on the “under” in this one.

Injury Report

Brandon Scherff -- The Redskins’ standout guard injured his knee on Monday night against the Eagles when he was hit after a play. The sprain is mild and he could play against Dallas, although that is still up in the air.

Josh Norman -- The Redskins’ cornerback has missed the past two games with injured ribs but is expected to practice this week. That’s a good sign and he would be a welcome addition to the secondary, especially with Cowboys star receiver Dez Bryant on the other side of the field.

Trent Williams -- Washington’s star left tackle is dealing with a knee injury that will eventually need surgery. Williams continues to play through the pain and seems likely to play in this one, but he is limited by the injury and could be shut down at any time.

Dan Bailey -- The Cowboys kicker is going to miss a few games with a hamstring injury. He is one of the more trustworthy kickers in the NFL and Dallas hopes new kicker Mike Nugent can fill in capably. It is something to consider especially since this outcome is expected to be close.

Player to Watch

Ezekiel Elliott -- The Cowboys’ running back finally got going last time out against the 49ers. Elliott carried the ball 26 times for 147 yards and two touchdowns while adding a 72-yard touchdown reception.

The 2016 rushing leader has now eclipsed 100 yards rushing in each of the past two games and if he can do it again in this one it will give the Cowboys a great chance to come away with the victory. Elliott still has six-game suspension hanging over his head but that punishment is still making its way through the appeals court and he seems likely to play in this game.

The Cowboys are at their best when Elliott is running the ball effectively, and he was dominant last time out.

Free ATS Pick

The Redskins have a solid team and are playing at home, so this one should stay close. However, the Cowboys seem ready to shake off their slow start to make a run. Dallas is one of the more talented teams in the NFC and has the best chance to catch the Eagles in the NFC East.

The Cowboys should be able to go on the road and win this game, and they will cover the spread while doing so. The “over” is the choice on the scoring total as this should be an entertaining affair.

NFL Odds: Cowboys 31, Redskins 28
