NFL ATS Picks - Indianapolis Colts at Buffalo Bills Game Preview

Colts-at-Bills-(CBS)

The Buffalo Bills are fading fast, and need to turn it around to remain competitive in the AFC Playoff race. They have a good opportunity to get back on track when they host the struggling Indianapolis Colts. Buffalo started the season well but is now down to .500, which is one game behind the Baltimore Ravens for the final postseason spot in the conference.

The Colts have long been out of it and have been reduced to the role of spoiler. Buffalo will likely be favored in this game but there is no spread yet because of a big question mark at quarterback for the Bills. This is a crucial home game for Buffalo but it will be a lot harder to pull off if the team is short-handed.

This matchup in Week 14 of the regular season will take place on Sunday, December 10, 2017, at 1 p.m. ET at New Era Field.

Odds Analysis

The line has not been released yet. The Bills would be pretty solid favorites at full strength but that is in doubt. The scoring total is expected to be pretty low when it comes out as neither team scores a lot of points.

Injury Report

Tyrod Taylor -- The Bills’ quarterback suffered a knee injury against the Patriots last time out and had to be carted to the locker room, which usually isn’t a good sign. There hasn’t been an update on his status but it feels like there is a real chance he doesn’t play in this contest. Taylor isn’t among the elite signal-callers in the NFL but he is solid and it would be a huge loss.

Tre’Davious White —The Bills’ impressive rookie cornerback is in the concussion protocol after absorbing a cheap shot from New England tight end Rob Gronkowski on Sunday. Buffalo wasn’t happy with what happened and Gronk may get suspended, but that isn’t much of a consolation to a Bills team that is hoping to have White in this one. He could be integral to help guard Colts wideout T.Y. Hilton.

Shaq Lawson -- The Buffalo defensive end hurt his ankle against the Patriots and was seen in a walking boot. He is a former first-round pick who has three sacks on the season and this would be another blow to the defense.

Player To Watch

Nathan Peterman -- The Buffalo quarterback briefly replaced Taylor in the starting lineup earlier this season but was a disaster. He threw five interceptions in the first half against the Chargers before getting pulled.

Peterman played against the Patriots in mop-up duty, and he may have to be under center if Taylor can’t go. The Bills will really be in a tough spot if they fall to the Colts, and the most likely way that happens is if Peterman has a poor game.

Buffalo won’t put a lot on his shoulders if Peterman has to play, but he will need to make some throws. The Colts don’t have a very good defense but will look to take advantage of his inexperience.

Free ATS Pick

The Bills are usually the better team but have been hit really hard by injuries this week. The Colts are one of the worst teams in the NFL and are playing on the road, so it won’t be easy for them to pull the upset. This one is hard to predict until Taylor’s status is updated. If he can play, Buffalo should win.

However, he very well may have to sit. If Peterman is in there, Buffalo is going to have to rely on the ground game. While it won’t be pretty, take the Bills to squeak this one out. Keep an eye on the scoring total as these teams will struggle to score.

NFL Odds: Bills 17, Colts 16
