NFL ATS Picks - Kansas City Chiefs at Dallas Cowboys Game Preview

Chiefs-at-Cowboys-(CBS)

The Kansas City Chiefs have proven to be one of the best teams in the NFL in 2017. The Dallas Cowboys have the talent to join that upper echelon but has yet to put it all together, and now will be without star running back Ezekiel Elliott for six games. The Cowboys have won two straight games to get back above .500 on the season and a home win against an elite foe in the Chiefs in Week 9 would be a great sign for the future.

It won’t be easy, as Kansas City is 6-2 on the year with a pair of losses to the Steelers and Raiders by a combined seven points. The Cowboys are a tough team but if the Chiefs play up to their capability they can win this game on the road.

This is an intriguing clash of two NFL powers and it could help clear up the hierarchy as the NFL reaches the midway point of its season.

This contest in Week 9 of the regular season will go down Sunday, November 5, 2017, at 4:25 p.m. ET at AT&T Stadium.

Odds Analysis

The line has been pulled for now, seemingly because of Elliott’s suspension, but this one figures to have a small spread either in favor of the Cowboys or the Chiefs. Computer simulations have Dallas winning the game the slight majority of the time, but it wouldn’t be a surprise at all for Kansas City to come away victorious with as well as it has been playing this year.

The scoring total is yet to be unveiled but figures to be close to a standard NFL “over-under” since both teams can score but also have decent defenses.

Injury Report

Ezekiel Elliott – The Cowboys star running back will miss his team’s big game against the Chiefs this Sunday and begin serving a six-week suspension after his appeal was denied by a federal judge on Monday. Elliott was initially suspended by the NFL for domestic violence allegations and has been contesting the sentence all season. He has accumulated 690 yards on 164 carries for the Cowboys this season. His absence will definitely be felt. The 22-year-old is expected to return against the Raiders on December 17th for the final three games of the season.

Dee Ford – The Chiefs linebacker suffered a back injury in the second half of his team’s win over Denver Monday night and did not return. The severity is not known at this time but Ford has already missed two games this season with a back injury. The 26-year-old is a key piece of the Chiefs defense with 11 total tackles and two sacks this season.

Player To Watch

Dak Prescott -- The Cowboys usually rely on their running game, but without Elliott that is more in flux. Alfred Morris and Darren McFadden will aim to pick up the slack, and the team does have a great offensive line, so it’s possible the ground attack is just fine.

But if not, Prescott will have to shoulder the load. The second-year signal-caller has thrown for 1,569 yards with 14 touchdowns against four interceptions on the season and is also a threat with his legs.

The Cowboys usually run to set up the pass but that may be out the window the next six weeks, and if so, there will be a lot of pressure on Prescott to thrive. The Chiefs have a great defense and will test him.

Free ATS Pick

The Chiefs are a balanced team and are no pushover, so choosing them makes a lot of sense. However, Dallas is also a solid group and is playing at home. This one is going to be a nail-biter and it makes sense to take the underdog because it could be a toss-up, and those will be the better odds.

The Cowboys should make just enough plays to come away with the narrow win.

NFL Odds: Cowboys 27, Chiefs 24
