This is a huge matchup for a San Diego team which feels like it has enough talent to make a playoff push. Kansas City has been among the most impressive teams in the NFL in the earlygoing with a road win over the New England Patriots and a home win over a depleted Vikings team last time out.
The AFC West boasts three undefeated teams, including the Chiefs. If they keep pace, that would mean the Chargers fall three games off the pace after the same number of games. Los Angeles can’t afford that so expect a strong showing at home from the Chargers in this one.

Kansas City Chiefs -3
Los Angeles Chargers +3
Over/Under 47.5
Odds Analysis
The Chiefs are field goal favorites on the road and the juice is up to -120, but the bettors are still backing them without hesitation. Kansas City is getting more than 80 percent of the action thus far to cover.
The scoring total seems like it’s a bit low and the action backs up that claim, as the “over” has been the much more popular choice with about 90 percent of the money at least check. The Chargers are an intriguing moneyline bet as they would pay off at +144 to take care of business at home. The Chiefs are -165 favorites on the road.
Injury Report
Mitch Morse -- The Chiefs are pretty healthy, as a foot sprain for their center is the only real injury of note. It’s too early to know if Morse will be available in this one. Either way, it’s not going to impact the spread.
Jason Verrett -- The Chargers cornerback didn’t practice on Wednesday due to a knee injury and is not expected to play in this one. He is a solid cover man and will be missed, although Kansas City doesn’t have a huge downfield passing game that would scare Los Angeles.
Mike Williams -- Los Angeles’ first-round pick continues to progress from a back injury. He practiced in a limited capacity on Wednesday but is not expected to participate in the game. He was the No. 7 overall pick and should be a key piece once he starts playing, but it won’t be quite yet.
Player to Watch
Younghoe Koo -- The young kicker won the battle for the job in the preseason but has not done well since the games started to count. He had a chance to tie the game in Denver at the end of regulation in the season opener. Koo initially made the field goal, but the Broncos called timeout just before the snap. In his subsequent attempt, Koo’s kick was blocked and the team lost by three.
The Chargers were in another nail-biter last week. Koo had a chance to win the game at the end of the fourth quarter once again but missed the field goal. Los Angeles fell, 19-17, as the kick would have given them a victory.
Free ATS Pick
The Chargers could very easily be 1-1 or maybe even 2-0 if not for the kicking game. It’s hard to predict another close loss, and maybe this is finally the game when the luck goes Los Angeles’ way. Kansas City has looked good in its first two games, but playing on the road in the NFL is never easy.
Take San Diego to win this game outright, which will pay off nicely on the moneyline.
NFL Odds: Chargers 24, Chiefs 20
