NFL ATS Picks - Kansas City Chiefs at New York Jets Game Preview

2017-NFL-Chiefs-at-Jets-CBS-preview-Betting-Lines

The Kansas City Chiefs have slowed down considerably after a hot start. Now, not only is their AFC West lead shrinking, but more struggles could put their playoff standing in danger. Kansas City will aim to break a lull of five losses in its past six games in a Week 13 road game against the New York Jets.

Kansas City is favored in this contest but that hasn’t helped it recently as it keeps losing games to underdogs. There is a lot on the line for the Chiefs, who desperately need to find the magic that they had early in the season when they looked to be a Super Bowl contender.

The Jets aren’t going to make the postseason but have proven to be more competitive than believed this year.

Kickoff for this regular season Week 13 game is set for Sunday, December 3, 2017, at 1 p.m at 7 p.m. ET at MetLife Stadium.

New York Jets +3
Over/Under 44

Odds Analysis

The Jets are three-point underdogs in this game but there is an undercurrent of worry about the Chiefs, and New York is therefore receiving more than 63 percent of the action to cover this spread.

The scoring total is about normal for an NFL game. The “under” is the more popular choice, although only by a margin of 60-40, so it seems like this total is pretty well pegged.

Player To Watch

Kareem Hunt- The rookie running back burst onto the scene early in the year, establishing himself as a player not scared of the big stage. He rushed for more than 100 yards in four of his first five games, including a 17 carry, 172-yard performance against the Chargers in Week 3. The Chiefs’ dominance coincided with Hunt’s great performances, but both have fallen off lately.

Hunt hasn’t hit 90 yards rushing in any game since then. He was particularly ineffective last time out in a 16-10 loss to the Bills as he had 11 carries for only 17 yards. Hunt has 184 carries for 890 yards and four touchdowns on the season and is averaging 4.8 yards per carry. The season numbers are good but it’s been a tale of two different stretches and Hunt needs to get back to his early-season pace in order for Kansas City to move back into the upper echelon of teams in the AFC.

Key Stat

Five. That’s the number of losses the Jets have suffered in their past six games, although all of them have been by one possession. New York was knocked off by the Patriots by only a touchdown to start the streak, and then it lost to the Dolphins by a field goal. The Falcons beat the Jets by five points before New York bounced back with a win over the Bills.

The Jets enter this game on a two-game losing streak, falling to the Buccaneers by five and the Panthers by eight last time out. New York is only 4-7 on the season but its ability to keep games close is something to keep in mind when it comes to the spread.

Free ATS Pick

The Chiefs are struggling but they should be able to turn it around in this one. Look for Hunt to get on track, which will open things up for Alex Smith, who has struggled of late. Kansas City is a better team that it has shown of late. The defense needs to pick it up but this is a pretty good matchup.

The spread is an overreaction. Take the Chiefs to both win this game and cover the spread on the road.

NFL Odds: Chiefs 24, Jets 17
