NFL ATS Picks - New Orleans Saints vs. Miami Dolphins Game Preview

Saints-at-Dolphins-(FOX)-(London)

The Saints went on the road and knocked off the Carolina Panthers last time out, a win they badly needed after an 0-2 start. Miami was woeful offensively against New York but should be able to bounce back against a poor Saints defense. The games in London are always tough to peg because it’s unknown how the trip will affect each team. With that in mind, consider the “under” on a lot of wagers in case this contest is sloppy.

Kickoff for this regular season Week 4 game is set for Sunday, October 1, 2017, at 9:30 a.m. ET at Wembley Stadium.

Odds Analysis

The Saints are slight favorites on the neutral site. Neither team gets the three-point bump based on location as there won’t be any home field advantage with the allegiance expected to be split in the stadium.

The odds were just released so there hasn’t been any significant movement as of yet. The scoring total is predictably high as any game involved New Orleans will generally have a higher “over-under” than most games that week.

Injury Report

Marshon Lattimore -- The Saints’ first-round pick was held out of last week’s game against the Panthers with a concussion. New Orleans has had a ton of trouble slowing down the pass in recent years, which is why Lattimore, an athletic cornerback, was added to the fold. It’s unknown if he will be available for this matchup.

Terron Armstead -- New Orleans’ offensive tackle missed the Panthers game with a shoulder injury. He is a key piece on the offensive line but has yet to play this season. The Saints only allowed one sack of star quarterback Drew Brees last time out, and protection is essential in this one.

Rey Maualuga -- The Dolphins linebacker missed another game last week with a hamstring injury. Miami is woefully thin at linebacker with Lawrence Timmons suspended and Raekwon McMillan done for the year due to a knee injury. The return of Maualuga would be big, but his status for this game is unclear.

Key Stat

0. That’s the number of points the Dolphins mustered in Week 3 until a meaningless touchdown pass from Jay Cutler to DeVante Parker with no time left on the clock. It was a worrisome showing against a Jets team that is certainly better on defense than offense but not better than average on either side of the ball.

Cutler finished the game 26-of-44 for 220 yards with a touchdown and an interception. He needs to be better, but should have more opportunities against a Saints defense that often struggles to get pressure. New Orleans had a nice defensive showing last time out against the Panthers, intercepting Cam Newton three times, but allowed an average of 32.5 points per game in its first two games.

Free ATS Pick

The Saints’ defense took a big step forward last time out, and the Miami offense struggled badly. It won’t be as pronounced in this one, but look for New Orleans to hold up enough to give the offense the shot at winning this one. It’s going to be close, but take the Saints to win this one in the final seconds of regulation with a game-winning field goal to cover the spread.

The choice is the “over” but the scoring total seems pretty accurately pegged as the total should come in right around the 50-point projection.

NFL Odds: Saints 27, Dolphins 24
