NFL ATS Picks - New York Giants at Washington Redskins Game Preview

Giants-at-Redskins-(NBC)

The New York Giants played the role of spoiler a week ago, stunning the Kansas City Chiefs. They would love to keep that rolling and knock off the Washington Redskins in Week 12. Washington blew a big lead in an upsetting loss to the Saints last time out and needs to go on a big roll down the stretch to qualify for the playoffs.

The Redskins’ margin for error is thin, but they should be sizable favorite in this one. Washington is 4-6 on the season and may have to run the table in order to secure a wild card spot. New York may have pulled off a nice win last time out but the season overall has been a huge disappointment. Between losses, injuries and dissension, it’s hard to pick the Giants even after a solid win last time out.

This matchup in Week 12 of the regular season will take place on Thursday, November 23, 2017, at 8:30 p.m. ET at FedExField.

Odds Analysis

The Redskins are only two games better in the standings but have been much more competitive than the Giants in 2017. They spread started out at 7.5 go get some action on the Giants. It has dropped to a touchdown margin, and not surprisingly, Washington is the team getting more play on this line.

The scoring total is pretty normal for an NFL game. The “under” is currently the more popular play.

Injury Report

Jordan Reed — The Redskins’ talented tight end has battled through a disapointing season. He has all the talent in the world but Reed has always been injury-prone. He is currently dealing with a troublesome hamstring injury that has kept him out of the past few games. Reed has only 27 catches for 211 yards and three touchdowns on the year.

Chris Thompson —The Washington running back has been impressive this year but he broke his fibula last time out against New Orleans and has been placed on injured reserve. The Redskins are low on available running backs, and there is a belief the team could add recently-released Cardinals running back Andre Ellington via waivers.

Terrelle Pryor — The Washington wide receiver was signed for big money in free agency but didn’t have a good year, and now he’s done for the season after undergoing ankle surgery. The Redskins will likely rely more on Jamison Crowder and Josh Doctson with Pryor out of the picture.

Damon Harrison —The Giants’ defensive tackle was questionable for Sunday’s game against the Chiefs with an ankle injury, but played and made a big impact. He made the most of it, picking off his first career pass. That was nice, but Harrison’s real worth is in run-stuffing. He should be good to go for this one.

Scheduling Situation

The Redskins finally get a break after a brutal five-game stretch. Washington played the Eagles, Cowboys, Seahawks, Vikings and Saints in succession over the past month-plus and went just 1-4. Washington beat Seattle and should have knocked off New Orleans before blowing it in overtime.

Washington’s schedule lets up moving forward, with contests against the Giants twice, the Cardinals and the Broncos near the tail-end of the regular season, but the margin for error is razor thin at this point.

Free ATS Pick

Washington is better than its record would suggest, but all of the injuries could impact them in this one. The Redskins will be missing several offensive weapons and this one might not be smooth. Take the Redskins to win, but the Giants are the choice to cover the spread.

The “under” is the call as Washington and New York could lock up in a battle with fewer points than expected.

NFL Odds: Redskins 23, Giants 17
