NFL ATS Picks - New York Jets at Oakland Raiders Game Preview

Jets-at-Raiders-(CBS)-bm

The Raiders have a talented group and will face off with one of the worst teams in the NFL. Add in the location and this one has all the makings of a blowout. The Jets are trying to remain competitive despite a talent deficiency but it won’t be easy against a team that is explosive on the offensive side of the ball.

This contest in Week 2 of the regular season will go down Sunday, September 17, 2017, at 4:05 p.m. ET at Oakland Alameda Coliseum.

Odds Analysis

The Raiders are nearly two-touchdown favorites and that’s not scaring off bettors, who are backing them on the spread at more than an 86 percent clip. The scoring total is interesting. The Raiders will likely put up a lot of points, but can the Jets score enough to push this “over” the total? So far the bettors think so as most of the early money is headed that way.

Player to Watch

Khalil Mack – The Raiders defensive end is one of the best pass-rushers in the NFL, which could be trouble for a Jets offensive line that has talent problems. If the Jets fall behind in the second half they will be forced to throw, which will allow Mack to pin his ears back.

He had 15 sacks in 2015 and 11 last year and will likely hit double digits again in 2017. Mack didn’t have a sack in a Week 1 win over the Titans, but is likely to haul down New York quarterback Josh McCown once or twice in this one. If for some reason the Jets offensive line holds up against him and the other rushers, New York will have a great chance at scoring enough to cover this spread.

Key Stat

190. That’s how many rushing yard the Jets gave up to Bills in their season opener last week with 110 of those yards coming in the first half. Buffalo ran the ball 42 times against the Jets in that game and averaged 4.2 yards a carry in a 21-12 win.

This Week 2 matchup presents a big challenge for the Jets run defense, which was predicted to be strength for the team this season. The Raiders have one of the best offensive lines in the NFL and running back Marshawn Lynch played well in his debut, rushing for 76 yards on 18 carries.

If “Beast Mode” goes off, the Jets will have to pack the box, which will open up things for Oakland quarterback Derek Carr and wide receivers Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree. It’s pick your poison for the Jets on defense, but if they can stop the run at least they will have a chance at slowing down the Raiders.

Free ATS Pick

It’s not easy for teams to win by two touchdowns in the NFL no matter the opponent. However, the Raiders looked really good in their opener and should keep it rolling in this one.

Oakland is going to take an early lead and stay on the gas. While the Jets may make a mini-run in the second half, eventually the Raiders will come up with enough big plays down the stretch to pull away and cover the spread. The “over” is the right call on the scoring total as New York will do its part.

NFL Odds: Raiders 31, Jets 16
