Tampa Bay is at home and the computer projections posit the Buccaneers the favorite, so it will be interesting to see where the line is set. The Jets may be getting too much love as they are still a team that doesn’t have a lot of talent, although they have done more with less than most expected.
New York would incredibly find its way into the playoff hunt with a victory in this game, something that seemed quite unlikely before the season began.
This matchup in Week 10 of the regular season will take place on Sunday, November 12, 2017, at 1 p.m. ET at Raymond James Stadium.
Odds Analysis
It’s unknown where this line will be set as the big question is the health of Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston. He re-injured his shoulder in Sunday’s blowout loss to the Saints and there is no prognosis yet on his timetable to return.
If Winston can’t play, the line will shift dramatically in favor of the Jets. It could also affect the scoring total as Tampa Bay would be less explosive without their quarterback.
Injury Report
Winston – The strong-armed pocket passer originally hurt his shoulder against the Arizona Cardinals when he was brought down by Arizona outside linebacker Chandler Jones. He has been in and out of the lineup since then and has not been very effective. The Buccaneers have a veteran backup in Ryan Fitzpatrick ready to take over, and while he is a downgrade, Tampa Bay would still be in decent hands.
William Gholston -- The Buccaneers’ defensive end suffered a scary neck injury against New Orleans and had to leave the game on a stretcher. Gholston went to the hospital and it doesn’t seem likely that he returns to the field any time soon.
Jeremy Kerley -- The Jets’ wide receiver suffered a foot injury against the Bills and may not be available for this one. He isn’t a huge piece of the offense but is still the third receiver and hauled in three catches for 61 yards and a touchdown a few weeks back. ArDarius Stewart and Chad Hansen are a couple of options to replace him in the lineup if Kerley can’t play.
Key Stat
5. That’s the number of consecutive losses for the Buccaneers this season after a 2-1 start. Tampa Bay had plans to be in the playoff hunt but that has fallen apart quickly. Now, coach Dirk Koetter may be on the hot seat as the team has not lived up to expectations.
Frustrations boiled over last time out, as Winston prodded Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore and then wide receiver Mike Evans came over and knocked Lattimore down when he retaliated. Tampa Bay needs to try to re-focus, but it’s fair to wonder if the train has come off the tracks.
Free ATS Pick
The Jets would love to take advantage of Tampa Bay’s uncertain situation by coming away with a road win in this one. Most figured New York would be in a tailspin at this point but instead it is playing well.
Jets quarterback Josh McCown could be in line for a big game against a suspect Buccaneers defense. This one could come down to the presence of Winston, but either way the choice is for Tampa Bay to right the ship and come away with the victory. The spread will be smaller if Fitzpatrick plays but go with the Bucs to cover either way.
NFL Odds: Buccaneers 24, Jets 20
