NFL ATS Picks - Philadelphia Eagles at Los Angeles Chargers Game Preview

Eagles-at-Chhargers-(FOX)

Los Angeles has lost two of their three games in the final seconds and this could be another close one as the oddsmakers have pegged the Chargers as the slightest of favorites. The Eagles are coming off a thrilling last-second win over the New York Giants to improve to 2-1 and a road win would be a big boost as they aim for a run at the NFC East title and a playoff berth.

This matchup in Week 4 of the regular season will take place on Sunday, October 1, 2017, at 4:05 p.m. ET at the StubHub Center.

Odds Analysis

This seems to be a yearly theme, but once again the Chargers are better than their record would indicate. The oddsmakers still believe in them, pitting Los Angeles as a small favorite. Not surprisingly, more than 64 percent of the money is on Philadelphia to cover the spread on the road.

The scoring total is higher than in most games, and the “under” is the more popular choice.

Injury Report

Darren Sproles - The Eagles lost their shifty running back to a torn ACL and an arm injury last week and is going to be out the rest of the year. That will put more of the onus on LeGarrette Blount, who has seen sporadic carries through the first few weeks but should have a big load moving forward.

Rodney McLeod -- The standout safety missed Week 3 against the Giants due to a hamstring injury. The Chargers have a solid passing offense and Philadelphia would love to have all hands on deck in order to slow it down.

Jason Verrett -- The Chargers cornerback has been placed on injured reserve with a knee injury. It’s a big blow for Los Angeles, which seems to always have more than its fair share of injuries. The Eagles boast a star receiver in Alshon Jeffery and have some other nice pass-catching weapons, so the loss of Verrett is a big one.

Player To Watch

Carson Wentz -- The Eagles’ quarterback has been up and down this season, but a strong performance could help his team pull off the road upset. Wentz threw for more than 300 yards in each of the team’s first two games, but also tosses a pair of interceptions.

He took care of the ball in last week’s win over the Giants but only accumulated 176 passing yards on 31 attempts. Wentz wants the best of both worlds in this one, putting up yardage while taking care of the ball.

He must get time to throw, as Joey Bosa and the rest of the Chargers pass-rushers will certainly be hunting him. Wentz’s performance could very well decide which team comes out on top in this one.

Free ATS Pick

Most people are down on the Chargers, but they’ve lost two games by three points or fewer. As long as the team hasn’t packed it in, it should be able to win this game. Expect Bosa and Melvin Ingram to have big games on defense as Los Angeles finally secures its first win of the year.

It should be close, and while the home field field advantage isn’t huge because it’s not going to be a big crowd, the Chargers still get the benefit of staying home while Philadelphia must travel across the country.

NFL Odds: Chargers 27, Eagles 23
