NFL ATS Picks - San Francisco 49ers at Arizona Cardinals Game Preview

49ers-at-Cardinals-(FOX)

The Cardinals have been underwhelming during a 1-2 start but should nonetheless be a solid home favorite against the 49ers. Arizona is trying to solve its offensive woes after injuries to some key players, and it will be interesting to see how it fares against a San Francisco defense which has been inconsistent.

This matchup in Week 4 of the regular season will take place on Sunday, October 1, 2017, at 1 p.m. ET at University of Phoenix Stadium.

Odds Analysis

The Cardinals just played on Monday night so an official spread has yet to be released, but expect it soon. The Cardinals have the superior personnel and are playing at home, so they will be the favorites. The question is by how much.

The scoring total may not be too high, as both teams have struggled on offense at times this year. However, San Francisco is coming off a shootout against the Rams, so it’s tough to know what this one will look like.

Injury Report

John Brown - The Cardinals’ wide receiver has missed the past two games with a quadriceps issue that has hampered him dating back to training camp. Brown is a former 1,000-yard receiver who has dealt with myriad health issues of late. He’s a big piece of the puzzle when healthy, but those days have been few and far between of late.

D.J. Humphries -- The Cardinals’ left tackle suffered a knee sprain in the season opener and has also been out two games. The team’s offensive line has struggled thus far, and getting back arguably the most important piece is key. He could play in this game.

Reuben Foster -- The 49ers’ first-round pick seemed to be an immediate impact player, but he suffered a high ankle sprain in the opener and is doubtful for this contest. San Francisco has always had talented linebackers and he seems to be the next in line, but the 49ers don’t want to bring him back too soona nd aggravate the injury.

Matchup To Watch

49ers passing game against Arizona secondary -- San Francisco got something clicking last time out through the air, as quarterback Brian Hoyer threw for 332 yards and two touchdowns in the 41-39 loss to the Rams.

His favorite target was Pierre Garcon, and they will aim to do more damage in this one. The Cardinals’ secondary, though, is much more talented than the Rams’ and it will be tough to get something going.

Cornerback Patrick Peterson is a perennial Pro Bowler while Tyrann Mathieu is healthy and trying to return to his previous Pro Bowl form. If the 49ers can’t throw the ball, they are going to have trouble scoring.

Free ATS Pick

The Cardinals haven’t looked great early on, but they are at home and have a good defense. That unit should lead the way in a win that may not be the prettiest of all time, but should get the job done. The 49ers’ best chance to stay in this game is by forcing turnovers on defense.

If quarterback Carson Palmer and the Cardinals’ passing game clicks, this could be a blowout. Take Arizona to win this game.

NFL Odds: Cardinals 24 , 49ers 16
