NFL ATS Picks - San Francisco 49ers at Indianapolis Colts Game Preview

49ers-at-Colts-(FOX)

Indianapolis is sitting at just 1-3 on the season, but a win can get it to within a game of .500 and sitting in the middle of a crowded pack. A loss, though, would be a big blow to their chances at making a postseason push.

The 49ers can already make alternate plans during the playoffs after their 0-4 start, but this is a team clearly on the right track. San Francisco has been close to a win its past three times out and would love to get over the hump in this one.

Watch this regular season Week 5 matchup live on Sunday, October 8, 2017, at 1 p.m. ET at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Odds Analysis

There is no spread yet as Luck’s status isn’t clear, but he certainly seems unlikely to play in this one. If he is again sidelined, the ball will be in the hands of Jacoby Brissett. He has been up and down thus far but has done a solid job at home and will aim to lead his team to victory.

This spread figures to be close, with Indianapolis likely a slight favorite because of the location. If so, the 49ers could be a great choice on the moneyline as they can definitely pull this upset.

Injury Report

Reuben Foster -- The 49ers’ rookie linebacker has missed the past several weeks due to a high ankle sprain. He seems doubtful to play in this game but his status could become more clear as the days go on this week. Foster is a talented player and would be a big help.

Andrew Luck -- The Colts’ star signal-caller has been out due to offseason shoulder surgery and while he is getting closer to a return, it hasn’t yet happened. Indianapolis doesn’t have a great team around him and badly needs Luck to get back on the field as fast as possible.

Marquise Goodwin -- The 49ers wide receiver left the team’s Week 4 contest against the Cardinals because of a concussion. His status will be updated during the week, but he is a big-time deep threat, and his absence would take away that threat.

Ryan Kelly -- The Colts’ standout center has missed the entire season with a foot injury. However, he is getting closer to his debut and it seems possible he plays in this contest. Indianapolis has been hit hard by injuries and is hoping to get healthier as the season progresses.

Key Stat

8. That’s the number of combined points the 49ers have lost by in their past three contests, a three-points loss to the Seattle Seahawks, a two-point loss to the Los Angeles Rams and a three-point loss in overtime to the Arizona Cardinals.

San Francisco might be winless on the season but it is much more competitive this season and a win can’t be too far away. This is the easiest opponent it has seen thus far, and the 49ers will aim to flip the script and finally get a victory.

The losses are heartbreaking for a 49ers team that is trying to see some progress in the win column, but there’s no question hanging tough against some quality competition is a good sign moving forward.

Free ATS Pick

The Colts may be at home but they shouldn’t be favored in this game. The 49ers have looked better than expected in 2017 and Kyle Shanahan has proven to be a great hire as coach. Look for San Francisco to pick up its first victory of the season in this one.

Take the 49ers on the moneyline to maximize the earning potential on this wager.
