NFL ATS Picks - San Francisco 49ers at Washington Redskins Game Preview

49ers-at-Redskins-(FOX)

Washington is the superior team and plays at home. The 49ers are a pesky opponent who won’t be an easy out, but the Redskins are a potential playoff team that needs to keep winning to stay around in the NFC East race. San Francisco may not win but the bigger question surrounds the spread, and the 49ers seem to have a good shot at covering in this one.

San Francisco 49ers +10
Washington Redskins -10
Over/Under 46.5

Odds Analysis

The 49ers are heavy underdogs, and the majority of bettors believe this spread if too large, as more than 64 percent of the action is on San Francisco to cover. The scoring total is pretty high considering San Francisco has a solid defense and underperforming offense.

That’s more about a Redskins offense which could dominate in this one. The “under” is the choice by about 75 percent of early bettors, which makes sense considering Washington may run the ball a lot late if it has a big lead.

Injury Report

Josh Norman — The Redskins’ star cornerback suffered a broken rib and punctured lung in the team’s loss to the Chiefs on October 2nd and will miss a minimum of four weeks. Norman is one of the league’s top corners so his loss will certainly be felt by Washington. He has four passes defended this season and is usually tasked with facing off against the opponent’s best receiver.

Rob Kelley — Washington’s running back sprained his ankle against the Chiefs two weeks ago and is considered day-by-day. Kelley has 29 carries for 131 yards this season. The Redskins’ strength is in its passing game, so this loss isn’t huge.

Key Stat

11. That’s how many combined points the 49ers have lose by in their past four games. So while the team is 0-5 on the season, it could very well sport a much better record in 2017.

The hard-luck stint started in Seattle when the 49ers lost 12-9. Next they had the ball with a chance to win late against the Rams but fell 41-39.

The 49ers looked poised to beat the Cardinals in Arizona in Week 4, but fell 18-15 in overtime as they couldn’t hold on after making an initial field goal. San Francisco played in yet another overtime game last time out and fell to the Colts by a score of 26-23.

It’s not the biggest deal in the world since the 49ers weren’t expected to compete for a playoff berth this season anyway, but the players would like to get some wins in order for the confidence to improve.

Free ATS Pick

The Redskins may be a bit underrated at this point in the year. Kirk Cousins is playing some good ball and the wide receiver corps seems to be finding a groove after a lot of turnover this offseason. Washington lost a tough game last time out to the Chiefs but is the more talented team.

The 49ers aren’t likely to keep this one within three points, but the spread is too large. The Redskins should win but it won’t be by double digits as the oddsmakers believe. Take Washington on the moneyline but San Francisco to cover the spread.

The “over” is the choice as San Francisco’s passing game should make enough plays to get the scoring up by the end of this one.

NFL Odds: Redskins 27, 49ers 21
