NFL ATS Picks - Seattle Seahawks at Los Angeles Rams Game Preview

Seahawks-at-Rams-(CBS)

The Rams have always played Seattle tough but usually as a big underdog. They will be the surprising favorites in this matchup and will look to play up to that prediction. The Seahawks have a bunch of big-game experience and cruised to a win last time out against the Colts. They can tie the Rams atop the NFC West at 3-2 apiece with a win on the road in this matchup.

This contest in Week 5 of the regular season will go down Sunday, October 8, 2017, at 4:05 p.m. ET at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

Odds Analysis

It’s been a long time since Seattle has been an underdog to the Rams, but here we are because of Los Angeles’ great start. The Rams can go from upstart to a legitimate playoff contender with a victory. The betting public is on Seattle to cover this spread, with more than 56 percent of the early money going toward the Seahawks.

The scoring total is low despite Los Angeles’ impressive point totals early in the year. The “over” is the choice more than 88 percent of the time thus far, so clearly the bettors believe there will be more scoring than the oddsmakers projected.

Injury Report

Chris Carson — The Seahawks running back suffered a high ankle sprain against the Colts on Sunday and will have surgery this week. The rookie will miss an extended amount of time and possibly be forced to sit out the rest of the season due to the injury.

Cliff Avril — Seattle’s Pro Bowl defensive end also left this weekend’s game with a neck injury, exiting in the first half and not returning. There is no timeline for the 31-year-old right now with head coach Pete Carroll telling reporters that the Seahawks defender is currently suffering from stingers.

Lamarcus Joyner — The Rams free safety missed Sunday’s game against the hamstring due to a hamstring injury. Joyner suffered the injury in the Rams win over the 49ers on September 21st. The Seahawks don’t have a great passing game but it can be effective when quarterback Russell Wilson has time, and the presence of Joyner would help Los Angeles defend it.

Player To Watch

Eddie Lacy -- Carson took over as the main running back early in the season, which left Lacy either inactive or in a very limited role. However, with the injury, he may be back in the fold. Lacy has put together some good seasons for the Green Bay Packers in the past and needs to resuscitate his career.

Thomas Rawls could also be in the mix, as it’s unknown how the Seahawks will look at running back with Carson now on the shelf. Either way, the Seahawks would really like to get the running game going in this contest.

Free ATS Pick

The Rams have unquestionably been a pleasant surprise early in the season, but it’s too early to crown them a true contender at this point. Seattle is much more proven and will flex its muscle in this one. The Seahawks have struggled in the earlygoing but are still the team to beat in the NFC West.

This spread is much too lopsided in favor of the Rams. Jump on the Seahawks, either to cover the spread or to pull the upset completely. Seattle is a good moneyline choice, while the “under” is the call on the total.

NFL Odds: Seahawks 24, Rams 20
