NFL ATS Picks - Washington Redskins at Kansas City Chiefs Game Preview

Redskins-at-Chiefs-(ESPN)

The Redskins would love to repeat their blowout victory over the Oakland Raiders but will be road underdogs in this showdown. Kansas City has been the most impressive team in the NFL on the young season and can continue that trend with a quality win at home against a potential playoff team.

Watch this regular season Week 4 matchup live on Monday, October 2, 2017, at 8:30 p.m. ET at Arrowhead Stadium.

Odds Analysis

The Redskins’ dominant win last time out is fresh in bettors’ minds as they have 56 percent of the early action to cover this spread. The scoring total is high as the oddsmakers are expecting a blowout even though the Chiefs have a strong defense and Washington had a dominant showing last time out. It’s a good total as about half of the money is coming down on both the “over” and the “under.”

Injury Report

Jordan Reed -- The Redskins’ tight end was dealing with a foot injury early in the season and has added a chest injury to his maladies. He didn’t play last time out and is a key piece in the Washington passing game. Vernon David stepped in splendidly and caught a touchdown pass last week but the Redskins hope to get Redd back for this one, as he is a star.

Dee Ford -- Kansas City’s promising pass-rusher left Sunday’s game against the Chargers with a hip injury and was unable to return. He had 10 sacks in 2016 in a breakout season and was hoping to take another step forward in 2017. Keep an eye on his status as Ford is a key piece on the Chiefs’ defense.

Cairo Santos -- The Chiefs’ kicker was placed on injured reserve with a groin injury. Kansas City signed Harrison Butker, a rookie, off the Panthers’ practice squad to take over kicking duties. He will immediately be thrust into a primetime matchup, and while he has talent, it’s unknown if the pressure will get to him.

Player to Watch

Alex Smith -- The Chiefs’ quarterback has long been tagged with the game manager distinction, but he has been much more than that in 2017. Smith is 65-of-84 passing on the year with 774 yards and seven touchdowns.

He has been known for checking down the ball in the past in order to not make mistakes, but Smith has been much more aggressive this season. His performance helped upset the Patriots in New England in Week 1, and Smith is a big reason why the team is 3-0 on the season.

Kansas City drafted Patrick Mahomes in the first round in this year’s draft, and he is the heir apparent, but Smith is showing he is still more than able to get the job done under center.

Free ATS Pick

The Redskins are coming off a great performance, but this is a tough task. Kansas City looks like one of the top Super Bowl contenders, with a great defense and an improved offense. Running back Kareem Hunt has been a revelation and the Chiefs have rolled through the competition this year.

Don’t put too much stock into Washington’s win over the Raiders. It was solid, but it came at home. Going on the road is much tougher. Take the Chiefs to take care of business in this one, although the spread is too high. The Redskins are the pick to cover and the “under” is the call.

NFL Odds: Chiefs 27, Redskins 21
