NFL ATS Picks - Washington Redskins at Los Angeles Rams Game Preview

Redskins-at-Rams-(FOX)-bm

Washington struggled in its opener, a loss to the Eagles, but has a talented offense that should challenge the Rams. Los Angeles turned some heads with its opening-week performance but won’t be truly looked at as a legitimate turnaround candidate unless it can string a few nice outings together.

This is the next chance in a game which could be a toss-up.

This contest in Week 2 of the regular season will go down Sunday, September 17, 2017, at 4:25 p.m. ET at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

Washington Redskins +2.5
Los Angeles Rams -2.5
Over/Under 46

Odds Analysis

The Rams are slight favorites, but the spread is interesting in that they can cover with a win by a field goal margin. That seems enticing to bettors, who are choosing the Rams at more than a 65 percent clip.

The scoring total is middle of the road and the “over” is the more common choice currently, but only by a 54-46 percent margin. The Redskins are +130 on the moneyline and about 55 percent of the action has picked them to pull the upset at that payoff. The Rams are the -150 favorite.

Injury Report

Josh Doctson -- The Redskins wide receiver was limited in practice on Wednesday with a hamstring injury. The former first-round pick didn’t have a catch in the season opener against the Eagles, and while he is expected to play in this one, he doesn’t have a huge role. Terrelle Pryor, Jordan Reed and Jamison Crowder are the main targets for Cousins in the passing game.

D.J. Swearinger -- The Redskins safety was limited in practice with a back injury. Swearinger is a big hitter who was added in free agency this offseason. Washington has lost some key defensive players from a unit that wasn’t great to begin with, and can’t really afford to suffer any more losses.

Player to Watch

Aaron Donald -- The Rams defensive tackle held out for all of training camp, unhappy with his contract. He reported to the team before Week 1 but missed so much time that the team kept him inactive.

Donald will be ready to go in this one, and when he’s on his game he is one of the most talented players in the NFL. If the Redskins can’t block him, their passing game could be hurt. The Rams were great in the opener without Donald, but the test is much tougher in this one and his presence is super important.

Free ATS Pick

Los Angeles struggled last season but looked great in Week 1. Jared Goff had a big game at quarterback, and if he indeed takes a leap forward this season, it will be a huge development for the franchise. The Rams also have Todd Gurley and an improved receiving core, so the offense should be better than in 2016.

The Redskins have the more established quarterback and some intriguing skill players. This is a big game for Washington, which had some big personnel shifts in the offseason. The Rams aren’t as good as they looked in the opener, but are still favored to move to 2-0 with a win over Washington. That is a bit of an overreaction based on last year’s play.

The Redskins are a good bet to win this game outright, which would result both in a cover and a nice payout on the moneyline. The “over” is the correct call as Washington should be able to put up points and it’s defense will allow some as well.

NFL Odds: Redskins 27, Rams 24
