NFL Betting Online: The Buffalo Bills were pretty much the definition of a .500 team in 2015, finishing 8-8 and finishing in the middle of the pack both on offense and defense. Most of the key players are back as the team aims to take another step forward. That fate could depend on quarterback Tyrod Taylor, who was a Pro Bowler a year ago and has room to grow. While the Bills have some bright spots, they are underdogs to make the playoffs this year, listed at +200. Buffalo’s chances at missing the postseason are listed at -260 in NFL betting.

The Bills were 5-4 and in the playoff hunt more than halfway through the season, but lost four of their next five contests. It took wins over the Cowboys and Jets for the Bills to finish the regular season at .500, although by then their postseason hopes were dashed. The Buffalo offense averaged 23.7 points per game a year ago, which was 12th in the NFL. Taylor threw for 3,035 yards with 20 touchdowns and only six interceptions while adding 568 rushing yards and four scores. Taylor is back and will aim to increase his passing yards while keeping the turnover numbers low. LeSean McCoy led the team in rushing with 895 yards and had three touchdowns. Sammy Watkins took a big leap forward, finishing the season with 60 catches for 1,047 yards and nine touchdowns, really becoming a star near the tail-end of the season. The trio will return to lead the way offensively.

The defense allowed 22.4 points per game on the year in 2015, which was 15th in the league. Marcell Dareus, Jerry Hughes and Kyle Williams are back on the defensive line, but Mario Williams was released and subsequently signed with the Miami Dolphins. Ronald Darby had a solid season at cornerback while Corey Graham led the team in tackles last year at safety, and both of them are back. The Bills added to the defense through the draft, choosing defensive end Shaq Lawson in the first round and linebacker Reggie Ragland in the second.

The Bills were decent on both sides of the ball in 2015 but not exceptional. In order to qualify for the postseason, they will need to get some improved play somewhere. The passing game wasn’t super explosive a season ago, but as Taylor continues to gain experience, he may be given a longer leash. However, coach Rex Ryan’s strength is running the ball and playing a strong brand of defense, so he may prefer to attack teams that way. Buffalo is a good team that wasn’t great in 2015, and the odds are against them picking up a few more victories this season and making it to the playoffs. Taylor can help surpass those expectations with more progress this season in NFL betting.
