NFL Betting Online: The Carolina Panthers had a spectacular season in 2015 and came a game shy of winning the franchise’s first ever Super Bowl. But, the wheels came off in San Francisco. This year, the Super Bowl runners-up still have all the pieces including one of the most dynamic and athletic quarterbacks in the league in Cam Newton and the Panthers comes into the 2016 season with -450 odds to make the playoffs and +325 odds to miss the playoffs in NFL betting.
After going 7-8 in 2014, the Panthers spent the first part of the 2015 proving to the world they were for real. Sure, a 4-0 start was impressive but the early wins against Jacksonville and Tampa Bay were gimmes. Then, the victories just kept coming with the Panthers beating tough teams like the Seattle Seahawks and Green Bay Packers as Cam Newton dabbed his way into center stage in the NFL world. Newton threw for 3,837 yards last years with 35 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He was also the team’s leading rusher, with 636 yards on the ground and 10 rushing touchdowns. The Panthers defense was strong as well last season. It gave up 19.3 points a game, the sixth-best in the NFL last year. Luke Kuechly was the team’s leading tackler, with 118 tackles on the year including 76 solo tackles.
Carolina finished the regular season with a record of 15-1. The team’s only loss came to the Atlanta Falcons on December 27th. The Panthers entered the postseason among the favorites to win it all. The Panthers defeated the Seattle Seahawks in the first round of the playoffs and blew out the Arizona Cardinals in the second round to arrive at Super Bowl 50 against the Denver Broncos. But, Cam Newton—who had been fantastic all season long—just didn’t have answer for Denver’s stout defense and the Panthers fell 24-10 in San Francisco.
This year, the Panthers bring back much of the talent from the 2015 and, after coming up just short, maybe a bit hungrier. Carolina does lose All-Pro cornerback Josh Norman this season, who signed with the Washington Redskins this offseason. This was a big hit to an already vulnerable position and the Panthers secondary comes into the season as the what could be the weakest part of this year’s team. Luckily, the front seven is strong once again. On offense, Carolina gains a valuable piece back in third-year wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin who missed all last season after suffering a knee injury in training camp. The 6-foot-5 wideout will provide another option for Newton and should strengthen the passing game, joining Greg Olsen and Ted Ginn Jr. Carolina, the three-time defending NFC South champion, should win its division easily again this year and is among the favorites to win the NFC conference title as well in NFL betting.
