NFL Betting Online: The NFL will return to the airwaves for 2016 with the Hall of Fame Game, which is the first preseason game of the season. The Green Bay Packers and Indianapolis Colts face off in the contest on Sunday, August 7th, 2016 at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio. Colts coach Chuck Pagano said all of his players will participate in at least a portion of the contest, which should give his group the edge in NFL betting.
The Green Bay Packers are the stronger team overall, as star quarterback Aaron Rodgers leads a team that is expected to once again be in contention for the Super Bowl. The Packers went 10-6 last season and advanced past the NFC wild card round with a win over the Washington Redskins, but fell to the Arizona Cardinals in the NFC divisional round. Green Bay is expected to be better on offense this year with the return of star wideout Jordy Nelson, but he will likely sit this game.
Rodgers also seems unlikely to play, as the Packers are a veteran group who will have five preseason games of action, meaning there isn’t much need for the stars to play much in the first couple. Some of the star veterans on the defense include Clay Matthews and Julius Peppers, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if they also sat.
On the flip-side, Pagano has already said that the Colts’ starters will get some action. Now, that may only be one possession, but if quarterback Andrew Luck gets an opportunity against the Packers’ second-string defense, that could very well result in points.
NFL coaches have to balance the idea of experience against injury risk in the preseason, and Indy has evidently chosen to give their stars at least a little bit of playing time. The Colts are trying to get some issues ironed out after dropping from consecutive 11-win seasons to under .500 a year ago. Luck’s presence is a huge one, and if he can get back to his form of old it will be a big boost to the Colts.
Preseason games are tricky to wager on because the substitutions come fast and furious. This Hall of Fame Game is especially hard to gauge since the Colts’ starters figure to play briefly and the Packers’ stars may never touch the field.
After that it will be all of the backups pushing to make the team, and it’s hard to know which team will come out on top. While there is a lot of uncertainty, the one likelihood is that the Colts play their starters some and the Packers may sit theirs. That’s enough to tilt the game odds in the favor of Indianapolis in NFL betting.
