NFL Betting Online: The Arizona Cardinals won a franchise-record 13 games in 2015 and advanced to the NFC Championship game before falling to the Carolina Panthers. They return the core of that team and have brought in Pro Bowl outside linebacker Chandler Jones in a trade with the New England Patriots. While the Cardinals will have to battle the Seattle Seahawks for NFC West supremacy, the second place team still has a pretty good chance at claiming one of the two Wild Card spots. The Cardinals’ odds at returning to the playoffs are set at -200 for a ‘Yes’ wager. The ‘No’ wager will pay out at +160 if correct.
The Cardinals had one of the best offenses in the league a season ago and returns every skill player who contributed. The big questions is along the offensive line, where the team will have three new starters. D.J. Humphries was drafted in the first round in 2014 but didn’t play a snap as a rookie. He will now be penciled in at right tackle after Bobby Massie left for the Bears in free agency. Evan Mathis was signed to play right guard, while last year’s backup center, A.Q. Shipley, will aim to hold off fourth-round pick Evan Boehm for the starting job.
The defense added Jones to a pass-rush which was the weak link of the unit a year ago, while first-round draft choice Robert Nkemdiche is another player expected to contribute in getting after the opposing quarterback. Cornerback Patrick Peterson was an All-Pro a season ago, and he is joined by star safety Tyrann Mathieu in the secondary. However, Mathieu is coming off a torn ACL and may not be 100 percent at the start of the season.
The Cardinals caught a break to start the season as their Sunday Night Football opener against the New England Patriots will be Tom Brady-less, as the Pats quarterback recently dropped his fight to avoid a four-game suspension from the Deflategate scandal. The Cardinals will be favored in that one, but later have some tough games against the Panthers and Seahawks.
The biggest question for the Cardinals may be if quarterback Carson Palmer can duplicate his career season of a year ago. Palmer will be 37 in December, so age is a factor, but there is no indication he will slow down in 2016. If Palmer keeps up his impressive play, there are plenty of weapons around him. Provided the Cardinals have good health among most of their key players, it seems likely they qualify for the playoffs once again in 2016 for the third straight season. The -200 odds aren’t especially steep and seem like a pretty good value since the Cards are listed among the top Super Bowl contenders in the NFC alongside teams like the Seattle Seahawks, Carolina Panthers and Green Bay Packers in NFL wagering.
