It’s no secret where the Rams need help moving forward and the first big move they made during the offseason was trading away quarterback Sam Bradford to the Eagles for Nick Foles. That deal sees them move one player who just couldn’t stay healthy for another who had his own health concerns and regressed in Philadelphia’s attack last season.

Still, a healthy Foles is an upgrade from Shaun Hill and Austin Davis, who split time at quarterback last season throwing incomplete passes after Bradford blew out his knee for a second time.

The Rams gambled on drafting Georgia running back Todd Gurley with the 10th pick. Gurley is not expected to be ready when the season opens as he continues his recovery from an ACL tear that ended his college career, but when healthy he could be the talented playmaker the offense so desperately needs.

Also seeking to upgrade their offensive line, the Rams selected linemen in four of their next six picks after Gurley. The big prize is tackle Rob Havenstein from Wisconsin, who is an excellent run blocker – just ask Melvin Gordon.

Improvements were needed for an offense that was laughable at times last season, and the Rams seemingly addressed those issues.

The Defense is another story. The Rams flipped the second overall pick in the 2012 draft to Washington and used the stockpiled picks on Alec Ogletree, Janoris Jenkins and Michael Brockers to steadily build a roster around strong defensive players. The Rams have a destructive front four with Aaron Donald the most impressive of the group that includes Chris Long, Robert Quinn and free agent Nick Fairley.

The back seven is where the Rams need improvement. Akeem Ayers was brought in to help solidify the linebacking corps and the secondary is young but talented. The Rams need to get to the quarterback or that group will be hung out to dry.

KEY ADDITIONS: DT Nick Fairley, QB Case Keenum, QB Nick Foles, LB Akeem Ayers,

KEY LOSSES: QB Sam Bradford, OT Jake Long, DT Kendall Langford, OL Scott Wells, OT Joe Barksdale.

The Rams are itching for a breakout season and this team has the talent to surprise a lot of people around the league. Injuries hurt this team the last two seasons and they easily could have been an 8-8 or better team last season. If they stay healthy the Rams should top the eight win total.
